Vandenberg AFB Overview
It is July and I have been on base for a few days and watched the sensor hit 20 mph - but you couldn't fly a kite at the beach if you tried. The clouds blow over rapidly but there is no nearshore breeze. Plus, it is illegal to windsurf at Surf Beach, the only public access. This beach and the beach on base close at 6 pm. The whole area is a snowy plover reserve and there is very limited beach access from March to September.
What's worse, one foggy day I drove down the Coast Rd on the base and rounded Point Arguello. To my surprise, it was blowing 30 mph easy, but the only access (the Boathouse...google it and drool) had not one but two locked gates...and I was already on base!
Better to just take your chances at Jalama or Oceano.
