...winter storm watch in effect from sunday afternoon through
late sunday night...
the national weather service in taunton has issued a winter storm
watch...which is in effect from sunday afternoon through late
sunday night.
* locations...along and south of the massachusetts turnpike
excluding the immediate south coast. this includes northeast
connecticut...northern rhode island and southeast massachusetts
away from the immediate south coast. the hartford...providence
and boston metropolitan areas are included in the watch.
* hazard types...snow
* accumulations...snow accumulation of 4 to 7 inches are possible.
* timing...light snow develops during the mid to late afternoon
hours on sunday. the snow will then pickup in intensity sunday
evening...perhaps falling at an inch per hour at times sunday
night. the snow will come to an end by daybreak monday. although
the snow will have come to an end by the monday morning rush
hour...untreated roads will remain snow covered and slippery.
* impacts...untreated roads will become snow covered and slippery
by sunday evening along with poor visibility at times.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
a winter storm watch is issued for the potential of accumulating
snow of 6 or more inches in a 12 hour period...or 8 or more
inches in a 24 hour period. anyone traveling in the next 24 to
36 hours should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to modify
travel plans should winter weather develop.

monday...
the national weather service in state college has issued a winter
weather advisory for snow and freezing rain...which is in effect
from 7 am sunday to 7 am est monday.
* locations...laurel highlands...central mountains...endless
mountains and middle susquehanna river valley
* hazard types...snow and areas of freezing rain.
* snow accumulations...2 to 4 inches...except 4 to 6 inches across
the north central mountains.
* ice accumulations...ranging from a light glaze to between one
and two tenths of an inch south central mountains and lower
susquehanna river valley.
* timing...light snow will overspread the region sunday morning
and continue sunday afternoon and evening. snow will mix with or
change to freezing rain late sunday afternoon or evening from
south to north. all precipitation will end in the pre dawn
hours monday.
* impacts...hazardous travel from snow or slush covered roads and
poor visibility at times. across southern parts of the south
central mountains and lower susquehanna river valley which see
little in the way of snow accumulation..untreated roadways and
walkways will become slippery due to areas of freezing rain.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
hazardous winter weather conditions are expected or occurring.
