...high heat index values continue across the area...

heat index values on sunday and monday reached the upper 80s to 
lower 90s with isolated mid 90s on monday, and these same values 
will be reached today across northern new york and vermont. the 
heat index is a measure of how hot it really feels when relative 
humidity is factored in with the air temperature...which will be 
reaching record levels today. this will create a greater 
likelihood of heat related illnesses...especially when prolonged 
exposure or strenuous activity takes place in these conditions.

anyone with outdoor activities planned today may be more 
susceptible to heat related illnesses...especially if you will be 
outdoors for an extended period of time or taking part in 
strenuous activity. stay hydrated and take breaks in the 
shade...check on elderly family or friends who may not have air 
conditioning...and do not leave kids or pets unattended in
