Huguenot Park is a city-operated park located at the mouth of the St. Johns River on the north side of the river. To reach the park travel North on A1A (Heckscher Dr.) from 9A or south from the town of Fernandina on A1A. The entrance is located on A1A. The fee is $3.00 per car. No dogs are allowed in the park. Camping is available on unimproved sites and is inexpensive.
Huguenot Park is perhaps the best place in Florida to learn the sport of kitesurfing because it is possible for people of any skill level to find a good, safe place to practice the sport on any wind direction and any tide level. ENE, E or ESE winds offer the best kiting on the Atlantic side of the park. The best area for kiting is on the North point near the Ft. George Inlet and Atlantic ocean. The area inside the dunes is good on West winds for less expieranced kiters. There are two oyster bars on the western side of the “pond”. One is marked with PVC posts and completely exposed at low tide. Avoid areas of marsh grass because they have some oysters in them. During high use times avoid the family beach area. There, Campers, tents, pavilions and RV parking are very close downwind in NW conditions. In those conditions travel around to the North side of the “pond” where you will find flat water and soft sand at high tide. At low tide the mud is exposed and is slippery around the pond. At low tides the sand flats on the point are best for beginners and expert alike. The area near the jetty and 200 yards North is off limits to kiters if surfers are there. There is no kiting allowed on the St. Johns River side of the park because of the Mayport Naval Air Station ATC area. Park maps and general park rules are available at the front gate.

 Familiness: very
Parking: plentiful, $3.00 per car entry fee.
 Launch: sandy beach

Huguenot Park is easy to get to: From I-95 northbound, exit Heckscher Drive East just north of Jacksonville. Follow Hechsher eastbound 8-10 miles to flashing amber light at the Park's entrance. From Jacksonville's Beaches, take A1A North to village of Mayport. Then, take Ferry across St John's river to A1A North, 2 miles to the flashing amber light at Park's entrance.

The sensor is located between the lagoon and the inlet. Readings from the South and South-West register about 2 mph higher than on the beach. Wind from the East may register 2 mph lower than on the beach. North winds are fairly accurate. West winds are very gusty so check the high and low wind speeds. They seem to be accurate.
