...the combination of high winds and low relative humidity will
yield an increased fire weather concern today...
a red flag warning was not issued for this area due to the fact
that high temperatures will likely not exceed 50 degrees in most
areas. also...recent snow melt and some recent rainfall has kept
moisture around.
red flag warnings have been issued for the remainder of eastern
new york.
nevertheless...the combination of gusty winds up to 35 mph along
with relative humidity values dropping into the 20s this
afternoon...could make any brush fires more difficult than usual
to contain across the adirondacks.
we will continue to monitor the situation...updating as necessary.

...elevated fire weather conditions into this afternoon...
blustery northwest winds will continue today with sustained flow
around 25 mph and gusts up to 40 mph.
the gusty winds combined with very dry air building across the
region and relative humidity values falling to 15 to 25 percent
will result in the development of elevated fire weather
conditions favorable for fire spread.
a red flag warning has been issued only for northern
connecticut...but elsewhere light surface fuels will be slow to
recover due to recent rainfall which limit the fire weather risk.
we will continue to monitor the situation as it develops
today...updating as necessary.

...gusty winds and low relative humities will increase fire weather concerns today...
recent dry spell across the champlain valley and southern vermont
have allow fine fuels below 1500 feet to dry. this combined with
gusty northwest winds up to 40 mph...and minimum relative
humidity values between 25 and 35 percent...will increase fire
concerns this afternoon. the relative humidity values will be the
lowest and winds the strongest between 1 pm and 5 pm today.
areas of dry fine fuels exist across portions of the north
country. given the expected weather conditions...any fires that
do occur could spread quickly...burn intensely...and be difficult
to contain.

...enhanced threat for the spread of wildfires this afternoon...
gusty winds and low humidity will continue to combine with dry
fuels to enhance the threat of rapid wildfire/brush fire spread
through the afternoon hours. humidity will be in the 20 to 25
percent range this afternoon before increasing toward sunset.
open burning of any type is considered very hazardous this time
of year. accidental escaped debris burns are the number one cause
of wildfires.
