at 835 am edt, doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated a
broad area of moderate to occasionally heavy rain from eastern
maryland through central delaware and much of southeastern new
jersey. rainfall rates of one third to two thirds of an inch an hour
were occurring and will continue to occur this morning. this will
cause minor flooding. overflowing poor drainage areas will result in
minor flooding in the advisory area and small streams will be rising
rapidly. as of 8 am, widespread amounts of 1 to 1.5 inches have
already occurred from maryland's central eastern shore through a
portion of central delaware into southwest new jersey. isolated
amounts were nearing two inches. the heaviest so far, 1.87 inches in
barclay maryland with 1.76 inches in cohansey of southwest new
jersey.

some locations that will experience flooding include...
toms river, vineland, dover, millville, bridgeton, easton,
centerville, cumberland, barnegat, glassboro, hammonton, beachwood,
smyrna, absecon, shamong, buena, denton, centreville, egg harbor city
and laurel lake.

additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is expected in portions of the
advisory area with event storm totals of 3 to 3.5 inches likely.
this additional rain will result in minor flooding.

precautionary/preparedness actions...

turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

flooding is occurring or is imminent. it is important to know where
you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become
killers in heavy rains. campers and hikers should avoid streams or
creeks.

a flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
