open lake forecast for lake michigan
national weather service chicago/romeoville il
914 pm cdt sat sep 20 2014
for waters beyond five nautical miles of shore on lake michigan.
waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights...which
is the average height of the highest 1/3 of the waves...along
with the average height of the highest 10 percent of the waves
which will occasionally be encountered.
.synopsis...a trough of low pressure averaging 29.6 inches over
southeast ontario and western quebec back through the western
great lakes will lift east northeast to central quebec by sunday
morning...while dragging a cold front down the length of lake
michigan. another low of 29.6 inches is expected to develop along
the front over southern lower michigan sunday morning and then
track east...helping enhance a northerly pressure gradient over
the southern portions of the lake...possibly helping to increase
winds to gale force...mainly for the southern portions of the
lake. meanwhile...a large...sprawling area of high pressure of
30.3 inches will slide out of the northern rockies and into the
central plains sunday and continue to spread east to the western
great lakes sunday night and monday. the area of high pressure
will gradually build east through early next week...with the
center of the high moving just south of the lake monday night. by
tuesday...the center of the high will move into the eastern great
lakes and upper ohio valley as a trough develops in the far
western great plains. the trough will remain over the western
plains through early next week.
