With the current and the flooding on the Columbia.... be careful, watch out for eachother and BE SAFE.
SAIL with a buddy and if alone, let someone know where you are on the water. |

Stay upstream of your launch, so the current is your ticket home.
IF there are good downstream landing spots nearby, test the current, wind, and your ability to stay upstream in your first reach. The minute you lose ground, get the hell off the water.
IF YOU CAN STAY UPSTREAM, high current in the Maryhill corridor is a great opportunity for a DIY downwinder from Maryhill to Rufus. You launch at Maryhill, sail downwind past Rufus, then sail back to Maryhill. If the wind backs off, you just let nature take its course and ride the escalator home. Tip: The swell may be non-existent. |
