I'm trying to plan a windsurfing trip to the Gorge for late August. Rental vehicles that can carry a board in back are scarce. Might you be interested in renting your vehicle? It would be wonderful if we could arrange a pickup-drop-off at PDX.
Very responsible 68-year-old.

Please PM me. Thank you,
Marc

Some cars still have pass-through back seats. i.e., the rear seatback will lay down to open up the trunk into the back seat (and vice versa). Maybe you could rent one of them, as I did for driving one-way across the country to pick up a motor home.

Hi Marc,

We used to rent Moving vans from Budget or Thrifty for $20 a day back
in the 90s and get them right at the airport. Sadly, that option went away
long ago, but...………….. You could Uber yourself from the Airport to a Budget
location where they have that type of van. I doubt they're still 20 a day, but I still see the advertisement (usually on the side of a $20/day Budget van).

What Mike says about some rental cars is also true, and my friends and I also found, that removing the back seat (to make passage through to the
trunk) is about 8 nuts and 30 minutes worth of work in most rental cars.
That might not be an option for someone responsible though. ;*)

Thanks, guys. 8 nuts...ha! I like the ideas--keep them coming--but I'm facing headwinds: huge race in late August is sucking up all the vans, SUVs and larger cars anywhere near Portland. Crazy. No gear or vehicles to rent!?!?! COVID...I guess it's "Locals Only" this year. Crying or Very sad

I suggest considering Handirack
https://www.handiworld.com/handirack/
works on most any sedan. I use it to haul
2 large SUP on a small call. Should work for a week in The Gorge
windsurfing

I would suggest buying some FCS soft racks. They work on almost any car, even those without rain gutters, but they are best used on 4 door cars to get the best span length. You can buy them on Amazon for around $60-75.

brand of soft rack may be unimportant, but I suggest getting inflatables. Handirack fits easily in suit case. I used these for using standard windsurfer on rental car in Michigan no problems fun and convenient. Think I paid about $100

Big Winds in HR and rental shop in Maui would almost always include those soft racks that wrap under the ceiling of the rental. Worked great.
