Hey Marc,
I did shim the rear wing on the SS 76 wing and 130 Dialer board. It did help but still couldn't get everything balanced. On My Naish 122 and 2020 1150 foil I set everything middle and used the foil track to make half inch adjustments.
It didn't take much to get it close. Then I adjusted the mast track to get the feel I wanted in the sail in the harness. At first I felt that the sail was to far forward. I moved it back a strong inch and it was better but I felt the foil was now to far back. Moved the foil up a bit and all is balanced. Both straps harness and pretty easy flight control. Just wish I didn't get wet so much on the turns. I see that SS has two boards that have adjustable foil tracks... |

I think foiling jibes take getting wet at least a few dozen tries.
Planing jibes were easy and 80% after 20 days, but a combo when learning is sketch.
Seen some foilers just tack.
Past 30 foiling days, I fall 1-3 times a day max, with plenty of dry days.
Full foiling jibes still elude me. |

For comparison: his one hour average on the foil would get him the #3 ranking on the US speedsurfer on the GPS Team Challenge. Internationally, it places him in the top-10 percent (160 of 1703).

My impression is that foiling is opening up a completely different little universe in open water when it comes to average, long distance, speed. One where water conditions are much less important ... |
Now I am quoting myself, but here is an example of the upcoming supremacy of foils in Open water. Japan Defi Wind superstars https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=gMQ2dnnT6Lg&feature=emb_logo In flattish water the foil lagged behind the slalom boards, but than, going around the Island (this is a Defi), condition freshen up and the foils dominate with the first fin coming in 30' (!) after the first foil.
It is interesting because foils started as ticket to slow speed, but just after a few years they are developing into a medium-high winds open ocean option ...
Here is a quote from Chris (F4) on the same topic (from Seabreeze.au forum)
The PWA guys have been training for a good part of the winter in tenerife preparing for the fin vs. foil full slalom racing this year. Even with pro guys on 8.6 powered in 14-18 PWA knots, they are ahead of the foils only in flat water. Once it gets choppy, foils seem to have an advantage mailing consistent speed and much less slow down in the turns. Also its early days for foil development, speeds will go up significantly this year with better control at the same time. Boards and sails have a huge effect as well. |

You got it wrong.
Foils ARE good at light wind, yes.
But foils took over for course racing over formula.
So what we see in Japan is foil, which is formula, against slalom, which is reaching.....not upwind and downwind. |

Diff between our points of view is YOU believe everything you read and pass it on to us.
I, OTOH, have sceptical opinions on foiling, have over 60 days of actual foiling experience, park, rig, and talk to 3/4 of the course racing foilers around SF, and know the difference between what COULD be done and what's ACTUALLY being done by amateur recreational foilers.
Course race foiling is different from slalom windsurfing. |

And don't forget!
You are the worse foiler ever.
I have progressed, or regressed, to be the second worse foiler in our area.
So, who's opinions gather less weight? |

Just relax, will you? If you disagree with somebody it's ok. We do not all think the same on these soooooooo important issues. |
