|

I've been using Chinook Universal with Streamlined mast extension for years. Recently replaced the Chinook universal and strangely it no longer is compatible with the Streamlined extension. The washer inside the extension where the pulleys attach interferes with the part of the of Universal that inserts into the extension. One of the buttons is able to pop thru the hole on the side of the extension but the other one does not.
anyone else have a similar experience? |

Had similar problem years ago with compatibility of Windsurfing Hawaii and Chinook, the cup needs to be inset from round to accommodate any nuts on inside of extension. Seems like you need to replace the Chinook cup with a Streamlined cup, pictures show that it is extremely shaped from round to have a lot of space. US cup bases wiggle around inside most extensions, the Streamlined one must wiggle around a lot unless it has otherwise very tight tolerances. Maybe Chinook has some old style cups lying around that they would sell to you. I have found it difficult to remove cups, they are stuck on pretty well. |

Sometimes, if one pops thru, flip it over and both pop in.
Sometimes, sand a bit off of the basecup. |

Using universals with different extensions can be a problem when they seem to match. I found out the hard way when I had a separation on a 4.0 day because the pins, even though they protruded through the hole in the extension, didn't protrude far enough and didn't hold. I drilled the holes bigger to accommodate the fatter pins. Luckily, the wind that day was on shore which is where my board wound up. Blowing away too fast to catch and only 100 yds. to shore. |
