Trouble getting moving after uphauling. Beginner.

I went out today and came up with a new question: How the heck do you go downwind in <5 mph winds? Is it even possible? I got into this situation today where I was trying to get downwind of a dock while this kid was waiting for me to move so he could fish; I finally had to tack and go around in a big circle to get downwind.

On the other hand I made my first few beach starts today, so that was cool.
