Sensor Notes
Data from this station is courtesy of the National Weather Service (NWS). NOAA sensor. This sensor is a Blunt Point on the Treasure Island side of the Island. Because of a local venturi and the height of the sensor it reads high by 5 to 15 knots. When combined with the WeatherFlow Crissy & Treasure Island sensor this sensor is invaluable for judging the strength of the thermal winds coming into the Bay. When combined with the Golden Gate sensors this reports helps you judge the wind in the waters in the mid bay off Crissy Field. If the WeatherFlow Crissy sensor is reporting a low average but with very strong gusts and these sensors are showing wind then it is probably possible to plod out to the wind line from Crissy. This sensor also give a hint of the wind to be expected later in the day in the waters off Berkeley and Pt. Isabel. If the new Treasure Island launch site is developed this sensor will give you an idea of the wind to be found between Treasure Island and Angel Island. The wind at the launch will be much weaker. In the fall this sensor will show whether there is some light slalom sailing mid Bay off Crissy field even if the WeatherFlow sensor reads very low.
