send several waves of energy across the colorado high country
through tuesday. this will bring snow...heavy at times...to the
colorado high country. if traveling across the colorado
mountains...be prepared for hazardous and slow travel conditions.

the national weather service in denver has issued a winter storm
warning for snow and blowing snow...which is in effect from
midnight tonight to 5 pm mst tuesday.
* timing...snow will increase in intensity tonight and become
heavy at times into monday morning. while there may be a break
monday afternoon...heavier snow is expected to redevelop monday
evening and continue into tuesday. snow will finally decrease in
intensity tuesday evening.
* snow accumulations...1 to 2 feet.
* wind/visibility...southwest winds increasing to 20 to 30 mph
with gusts to 40 mph in exposed areas by monday. visibilities
will be reduced to less than one quarter mile during periods of
heavy falling snow and blowing snow.
* impacts...travel will be hazardous with snow covered roads and
reduced visibilities. some secondary roads may become impassable
due to the depth of accumulated or drifted snow.
precautionary/preparedness actions...
a winter storm warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring. significant amounts of
snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. only travel in
an emergency. if you must travel...keep an extra flashlight...

the winter storm watch is now in effect from monday evening
through tuesday afternoon.
* summary and timing...light snowfall will begin across the area
late tonight...mainly south of the interstate...with snowfall
intensifying and becoming more widespread monday night. snowfall
should weaken through tuesday afternoon.
* snow accumulations...3 to 7 inches with up to 9 inches south of
interstate 80.
* wind and visibility...west wind of 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to
30 mph expected monday night into tuesday morning with a wind
shift to the northeast by tuesday afternoon with winds gusting
up to 35 mph. the gusty winds will create reduced visibility in
falling and blowing snow in addition to wind chills to near zero
degrees.
* impacts...snowfall may create snow packed roadways resulting in
increased traveling difficulty...including interstate 80 through
sweetwater county. windy conditions will create low visibility
and low wind chills monday night and tuesday which could be
deadly to newborn livestock and could cause frost bite to humans
and animals who are left exposed to the conditions for an
extended period of time.
