open lake forecast for lake michigan
national weather service milwaukee/sullivan wi
310 pm cdt wed aug 5 2026

for waters beyond five nautical miles of shore on lake michigan.

waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights, which
is the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave, along with the
average height of the highest 10% of the waves which will
occasionally be encountered.

.synopsis...

a stalled front is sitting over southern lake michigan this
morning. light and variable winds can be expected through thursday
as the front shifts south and weakens and high pressure moves
into the region. intermittent showers with a few thunderstorms
are possible.

patchy marine fog is possible due to warm and moist air over the
region. the areal coverage of the fog is not able to discern due
to the high clouds over the lake. surface observations near the
lake are showing fog with visibility greater than one mile this
afternoon, and a ship ob over the center of the lake indicated
haze. so not thinking marine dense fog advisory at this time but
will continue to monitor trends through the night.

a prolonged period of south-southwest winds will then become
established across lake michigan late thursday night through
sunday, with the exception of northwest winds saturday morning
with a brief cold frontal passage.
