What is the best way to repair a 6 linear parting of a sail along the bottom batten pocket where the cloth has worn away between the batten and the board, from dragging the sail over the board?

If there is enough material to draw the edges together and sew it, that should work. If not enough material, then you need to trim the worn parts and put in a patch. You should be able to get sail cloth through a local sail maker or maybe your local windsurfing shop. You may be able to contact the sailmaker to get patch pieces to match the color & material type.
You will need a good sewing machine that will sew strong materials (ie; denim, canvas, etc.). If it seems too much for self repair, the original sailmaker could repair it for you. You could also check your local area for sailmakers/repairs. They may not be able to match colors, but it would still be functional. If you are interested in sending it out, there are a number of shops in the Gorge that do repairs. I can direct you to some if needed. |
