i Gang,

It is a sad day for Maui as much of the historic town of Lahaina lies in ashes. This tragedy has had a personal impact on me sent I used to dive, clearing gill nets in those waters long ago.
.

This blog covers some of the factors behind that fire:

Here is a video my friend took before the fires occurred. He has a farm and a farm stand nearby and in another post leading up to this, he filmed the wind whipping up a waterspout just offsore at Olowalu, which proceeded onshore and destroyed his farm stand. This video shows how intense and how dry the winds were blowing that day.

Hi Steve,

I am thinking of doing a in-depth blog about the type of Hawaiian winds that drove this fire.

Can you ask your friend if I could use his videos to illustrate the blog. I can give him an ad for his farm stand if he likes.

Mike

Sure Mike, I am sure he would comply. However he is hard to reach at this time. He's out of touch due to the outtages there, and also he's set up a support camp on his farm for housing and food distribution. Might be a few days.
