Aloha. Any idea when the Kanaha sensor will come back on line? Honestly, it is only because of this sensor that I have paid for the Pro subscription for the past 20 years. Thanks for any update!

Don’t expect a sympathetic response from iWindsurf on this. My local sensor was down for several months last year. I requested an extension to my current membership, or a reduced subscription the next year, and was informed that I should just be happy because I have access to their wonderful worldwide network of other sensors.

Ya I'm with you, only stayed on as member for Maui wind data. Hookipa was lost a few years ago which sucked. Now the wind at kanaha meter only displayed between 11 am-5pm - ? WHY. May be due to the fact that they have become a complete different company- we are no longer priority

Hi slambo,
Nope, it is the same company just a different name. Same CEO, top management, IT staff etc. Same headquarter location near Santa Cruz, California. But many new staff and offices since the company has grown. The iwindsurf.com name had to be changed since the scope of our services had grown beyond windsurfing. We now cover everything from Kiteboarding to running the Hurricane Network to maintaining our world-class sensor network to manufacturing a wildly popular consumer weather stations as well as AI modeling services. Hence iwindsurf.com is now weatherflow.com but our roots and staff are still deep in wind sports.
At all of the sensor locations we own the sensor but we do not own the property or Nav. Aid where the sensor is located nor do we own the cellular provider for the sensor. So when one of our ≈1,000 pro sensors fails we get a repair crew on site as soon as we possibly can since we like to keep customers.
But sometimes there is an issue with the property or the cell provider. For example, the sensor pole has to be removed, or the new owner does not want the sensor on their property (both of these issues have happened on Maui. Or the cell provider stops providing 3G which hundreds of our older sensors required. We have found that few beachfront property owners want a sensor in their view so it takes a very long time to get a new sensor location.
Incidentally, we also have 50,000+ of our new Tempest sensors installed worldwide. A few of these are near the north shore of Maui and may provide some helpful information until we can get the Kanaha sensor back online.

How do we find these Tempest sensors? Do they show up on the map?

Ah. Nevermind, they're the ones in green.

If you zoom way in you may find more green Tempest sensors in some regions. Be aware that most of these backyard Tempest sensors are not professionally sited and may be in locations with local wind shadows, venturis or eddys. Use them to get a feeling for the general wind flow.
When we install a ProNet sensor or a Tempest sensor we make a huge effort to find a location and elevation that has winds similar to the launch area.
These Tempest sensors are incredibly easy to install as you can see my installation in the photo below.

Thanks for the update Mike. Please let us know when the particular Kanaha sensor gets corrected.
