isobars, you have to admit that Medicare and the VA are apples and oranges in the scheme of things.

That's my point.

This is what you said.

"Medicare For All, as a formal program, was socialized medicine ... the VA on steroids."

You might want to read again what I said earlier. Medicare isn't in the business of running medical facilities, and there are no Medicare doctors treating folks.

It's hard enough to get a specialist appointment on Medicare. Can you imagine adding a couple of hundred million to that? Doctors already hate it

Don’t worry, we’ll put Durham on it right away.

This is actually hysterically funny, and explains how brain dead zombies like Malibu “think”. Here is the source of the original story: https://www.statnews.com/2022/10/18/bu-lab-wasnt-required-to-clear-potentially-controversial-study-with-nih-director-says/

It’s from an apparently reliable source, and the take home message is this:

Quote:
The director of a Boston University laboratory that conducted potentially controversial research on the viruses that cause Covid-19 said his institution didn’t clear the work with the National Institutes of Health because it wasn’t funded by the federal agency.

Ronald Corley said the research, which was designed to explore what makes some SARS-CoV-2 viruses more pathogenic than others, was paid for with money from the university itself. The work was approved by the institutional biosafety committee of BU’s National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories, and by Boston’s Public Health Commission.

Scientists from the BU facility posted results from their work in a preprint, a study that has yet to go through peer review. The British tabloid The Daily Mail published an explosive article about the work on Monday, suggesting the group had fabricated a more dangerous version of the SARS-2 Omicron variant.

Tabloid news, you know, like aliens got me pregnant. Or in Bard’s case, sucked his brain right out of his skull.

Other than a handful of doctors refusing Medicare altogether, I've never had a problem cold-calling a specialist and getting a prompt consultation via Medicare. Ditto surgeries. I've had 8-10 significant surgeries, most of them through Medicare, with lead times closer to a month or two. (I've also never paid a penny for any of those surgeries, because I buy supplemental health insurance.)

Tip: Getting proactive with the scheduling can REALLY accelerate visits. I've gotten schedules advanced by months -- to as little as hours for consultations to a couple of days even for major surgery -- just by asking for cancellation slots, getting my labs done in advance, displaying my knowledge* of the options and pros and cons, etc.

* I've always found that advanced knowledge does one of two things, both beneficial. First, it makes most of them feel better about accelerating the process. Second, it scares or pisses off the ones who don't like involved patients -- doctors I wouldn't let treat a pimple (a real experience).

I have to agree with isobars regarding scheduling specialists under Medicare, and I have been seeing quite a few.

Surprisingly, my most difficult scheduling problem was with my dentist, which has nothing to due with Medicare. I have no insurance for dental or periodontal care, and pay full price. Right now I've spent over $3800 for a dental implant, and that has nothing do with the crown part of the effort. That will likely cost me an additional $2400 to $3000.
