Hi,
I think my original post was buried somewhere..

I know this is a personal thing vis vis fit, but thought I would ask anyway. I am 6’4” 185. I have a Dakine T-5, 2011…maybe it is getting old.

I don’t think I have brittle bones, but I am pretty sure my waist harness just bruised or fx a rib. I think the former because it is way better after only 5 days. Maybe high wind and a bit bumpy. Who knows. Thing never really was comfortable with a lot of pressure on the sides when hooked in, but it is getting long in the tooth.

Which brings me to my main question. Time for an upgraded waist harness for the gorge. Any recommendations on a new waist harness that does a nice job of distributing the load so one does not feel that side pinch?

I also read a couple posts by the pros who wear their waist harness 'below' their ribs, slightly loose, and as a result, lengthen their harness lines another couple inches. I have yet to try this yet given our recent no wind period.

+1 I own 1 and love it. The feel is different with a hard shell though.
It definitely won't squeeze in on you.

Which model of ride engine? They make 3 or 4 types.

I have the Saber...Slightly heavier than the Carbon Elite but still plenty stiff. You'll also need the spreader bar ..... It's super spendy, but its worth it .. No back issues after hours on the water. Never slips...

Mystic also makes a carbon backed waist harness. I’ve also had a ride engine. Both are great for bad backs and shouldn’t squeeze the ribs much.

Another Ride Engine fan here - just a game changer. I find that tightening up the straps after a few reaches “sets” it in place and it stays there, which is a first in decades of sailing.

I have a carbon elite that’s 3 years old and is super easy to use, but my wife looked at one last year and the new buckle system seemed sort of klugy.

Just be sure to try one on as sizing is not intuitive.

Yup...they run big... And once you dial the fit in, you're set , just click it in and go!

I have a Carbon Elite, sweet sweet sweet. And as Boggsman says, you'll need
a spreader bar that you'll have to get from Ride Engine. Be sure you get the
bar designed for windsurfing.

I have read that the width of the spreader bar may make a difference? I see the unity spreader bar comes in 8, 10, 12”. Maybe the sizes vary for slim to wide people, but then I read somewhere that wider was better? Thanks!!!
