i do not foil, just windsurf and still prefer to call what I do as sailboarding - my goto board is my Fanatic Shark 145 HRS
as I was reading this "discussion", I felt completely lost lol
how much of this jargon do I need to learn BEFORE I venture into the windfoil world ?? Smile

None.
Like do you need to know what kind of derailleur is used on your bicycle?
Do you need to know the capacity of the furl injectors of your car?
Do you need to know the specs of the cushioning materials of your shoes?
Do you need to know the composition of the bedrock beneath and adjacent to your house?

"Do you need to know the composition of the bedrock beneath and adjacent to your house?"

Have you ever heard about Radon gas? Needless to say, it's not at all healthful, and it can be coming out of the ground right underneath your house. It's not wise to be stupid about such things.

And, please tell us more about furl injectors in cars.

You do need to know. But not about carbon masts. Mast length front wing size and type of board connection are need to knows. You need to know, that you do not need to spend a lot of cash on a high end foil to have tons of fun foiling. You need to know that it is a good idea to wear a helmet, vest and leg protection while learning to foil. I can think of a few more need to knows but the wind just picked up so I'm off to the lake for a lite wind foiling session.
OK one more: Lite wind foiling is almost as much as high wind windsurfing and much easier on the old bones

Lots of people drive cars and never know how to change a spare, open the hood, or how to add gas.
Do you want to be like them?

Nobody cares about speed anymore. That was a year 1995 quest.
Now, it's all about what you can do....trickster wise.

well a S27 C35 85 cm mast and updated fuse will be at my door in the next day or two, I will report back after I get a session in this Friday/weekend

foiling is great. On days that would be light wind freestyle days, I'm able to foil instead. No need for sails larger than my 6.3 and a 430 mast. biggest board is now a 120 liter foil board that's only 203 cm long and fits kitty corner in the 5.5 foot bed of my pick up. Will see about winging as the wind threshold should be even lower.
