This is the worst foreign policy debacle in decades. Yet Joe's handlers kept him out of harms way at Camp David for days while the whole chaotic cluster was unfolding. Finally couldn't avoid bringing him into DC for an hour to explain himself, but wouldn't allow questions (so why not just give the speech from Camp David?), then wheeled him back out to his Maryland hiding place minutes after the speech. They are clearly terrified of exposing him to the possibility of any unscripted commentary. It was subsequently revealed that he has yet to speak with any other foreign leader. The occupant of the most powerful job on earth is a frail old man in hiding.

The implications of this are stunning. China is already threatening Taiwan. When this happens, sell, sell, sell. In addition, Trump was wise to threaten the Taliban leaders with utter destruction if this was the outcome of his withdrawal. Does anyone here in their right mind think that Trump would have left billions of high tech armaments in Afghanistan? Or even 1 American before he withdrew? Not a chance. And PS, Trump would have already moved another carrier group into the S China sea to protect Taiwan.

Just wanted you all to see the hypocrisy. Remember that this is a man who has crusaded against government—yet made his living with a product largely sourced from land leased from governments. A man who complained that governments are all incompetent—and then bragged that his children had SCIF access—working directly or on contract for the government. And yes, silent when Trump ran out of Syria, urged by his buddy Putin, leaving military equipment behind.

Pathetic, but not surprising.

You're letting your partisan self get the best of you. A clunky final exit? yes, absolutely. The worst policy debacle in decades ? No sir. The entire Iraq War a Biblical debacle, even Trump admits that.

Steve, wake up. China has been threatening Tiawan for years now. I know the entry level thinkers want to equate our perceived weakness as an opening for other nations, but I doubt that will transpire into anything meaningful.

Well, if we want to look at how we got here—instead of inventing insults about Biden—there is this from today’s WAPO:

Quote:
Notably, the only senior official consistently opposed to the troop surge and counterinsurgency gospel is Vice President Joe Biden. He insists that the Afghanistan war should be focused strictly on counterterrorism — preventing al-Qaeda from regaining a haven to attack the United States.

It seems he was right.

The awkward Trumpy truth about Afghanistan's likely new Taliban leader

Quote:
Rachel Maddow looks at how Taliban leader Abdul Ghani Baradar went from being imprisoned in Pakistan to likely the next leader of Afghanistan under Taliban rule, thanks to some help from some typical Trump administration deal making.

Today's news crawler said for many minutes that the administration has announced that AMERICANS in Afghanistan may not get evacuated. Discussions suggested that this was not a simple statement of the reality that we may miss a few, but rather a hand-wringing dismissal of those still there. One big complaint was that Taliban checkpoints block the roads.

Do Mindless Joe and his puppetmasters not comprehend that
a) our obligation to our citizens and the Afghans that helped us at grave risk are paramount on many levels,
b) checkpoints make great drone targets,
c) the USAF, USN, and USA -- minus the GD lawyers and bleeding heart politicians -- have the power to decimate the Taliban in just days with less collateral damage than the Taliban and the inevitable Al Queda/ISIS reincarnation will inflict on Afghans and the Great Satan, and
d) the world is watching to see whether our nations' word means ANYTHING?

I have just one word for that kind of insanity (it has, after all, devolved into JUST one word): fuckingdemocrats. Unfortunately, the GOP has been spinelessrepublicans for generations, with the exceptions of 1980-1988 and 2016-2020.
