Hi All,
I have an old Streamlined boom that need a new clip to adjust the tailpiece extension. Streamlined will sell me a 2 pin but mine is a single pin. Are they compatible? And if so could I just use a different manufacturer that is more readily available here in the states? Any help is appreciated.

Sailworks carrys parts and the Booms for streamined .
For awhile there was no way to get these reliably
in the US .
The replacement boom wraps are too short though or were.

I would talk to sailworks anyway.
Drill another hole maybe .
I didn't think they ever made a single pin system.
Maybe talk to Kevin Kahn at Sunset Sail boards or Boardsports.

I would think you could research various dimensions of your boom to determine whether a substitute would work. What is tube diameter? Can be made bigger if necessary. Is the opening in the tube big enough to fit 2 pins 2cm apart lengthwise? If not, might be tough luck, I see that Chinook 1-pin collars are discontinued and not available (I liked that system, metal pins better than the plastic they use now). For all brands its pretty much shoving the collar onto the end of the tube, friction fit or a dab of glue.

Was playing around in my windsurfing attic storage (arf!), their single pin corrodes, starts moving sideways enlarging the hole of the extension. Definitely would look into updating to the two pin design.

Thanks for all the replies. Just ordered 2 from Sailworks. I will have to drill a new hole for the second pin and I know drilling carbon can be dodgy. Other than a sharp bit any tips?
Sail On,

If you know anyone with a drill press, that would help in the set-up, and ultimately, with holding everything firmly in place. If it was me, I would try to keep the boom arms level during the process to best ensure perpendicular holes. Also, I would start with a much small drill bit and work up to the hole size you need.
If you're doomed to using a hand drill, I would use a dremel tool first to establish a good starting point into the surface of the tube that will help in preventing any tool wander at the start.

I just went thru this exact same process with Sailworks so I can be of help. My Streamlined boom had the single pin clips and the only option was to transition to the double pin clips. The biggest problem was the boom clips I received from Sailworks were for a boom arm with a smaller diameter than the boom arms on my boom. You cannot alter the boom arm diameter, so you have to increase interior diameter of the clip barrel so it accommodates the boom arm. The difference was about 1.25mm ....this being the amount you will have to increase the clip barrel diameter before it will fit over the boom arm! No small task. I made a sanding bore for use on my drill press. The bore consisted of a piece of threaded rod about 6" long and 5/16" diameter. To this I added a washer and nut then a piece of aluminum tubing about 3" long, then another washer and nut. The washers were sized so that their outside diameter matched that of the aluminum tubing. This was positioned at the end of the threaded rod. To the aluminum tubing I added double stick tape and then wrapped it with a piece of sandpaper. The sandpaper was actually a piece of belt sander sandpaper and I wrapped it around the aluminum tubing several times until it would just barely fit inside the clip barrel. I set drill press on s-l-o-w then put the end of the threaded rod in the drill press. I HANDHELD the clip barrel piece, sliding it up and down, sanding the inside until the interior of the clip barrel would just barely fit over the arm. It took some time to achieve the needed results, but it worked. Once the clip barrel fits over the arm you may have to shorten the arm just a bit to get the holes in the clip barrel to align with the holes in the tailpiece. After that, You will have to drill a hole in the boom arm spaced to match the holes in the tailpiece. I've had good luck drilling holes in carbon fiber by setting the drill press on the fastest speed and using a sharp drill and lowering the drill slowly into the piece to be drilled. YMMV [img][/img]
