Hey my pond windsurfing friends. Its looks like a no go season for this summer due to lack of water. None of the creeks are flowing, and no rain in the future. Lake is at 39.8% and going down quickly. The windsurfing area is pretty much dry. Lets all hope for lots of rain next winter....T

Bummer.
Jalama is next closest, but is Isabella within 2 hours?
Guess you gonna explore every lake within driving distance.
I have surfsailed all around UCSB, but never consistent.
Alas and Pismo, now that you foil?

Avlia beach and Morro in the harbor will work for foiling. Isabela is 6 hr. round trip on some pretty unsafe roads...

Hope you find some.
Atascadero and Pismo I've sailed maybe 8-18 side on.
Only seen straight onshore at Avila, otherwise always calm.
Around campus...UCSB...on N and NNE Santa Anas.
Shell Beach driven by 20+ times and seen kiters out maybe 4 times, but often side on with whitecaps.
Wish I was young. Exploring new spots was always my thing. Now same old, same old.
I remember some lake E of the Army base between 5 and 1 highways that had a winding road in and we saw groups of windsurfers waiting for planing winds, but it was too NW and they needed N I think.

Old age toll....
San Antonio.
That is the same name as the lake we sailed in New Mex on our way to Abreojos.
Was only 37 years ago. Why my memory fade?

I hear that. I used to drive many thousands of miles every year chasing wind over much of some 40 states, but the effort just doesn't warrant that any more. Age and illness have contributed lately, but too many freaking skunks cut my mileage long before that (I filled my non-windsurfing tourist squares decades ago.)

Yes, this is about me. Fancy that. But "me" will someday be every one of "you" if you don't grab some quality sailing every chance you can get, take, or make. Lee and I didn't let time pass by idly, and it has paid off immensely.

About that memory:
Do you really pass through NM on the way from CA to Punta Abrejos, Mexico? The only San Antonio Lake Google can find is in Monterey County, CA.

Lake San Antonio and Nacimiento are both a little west and north of Paso Robles, CA. Not good for windsurfing as the wind is usually light or non existent, plus full of jet skis and power boats piloted by impaired drivers....

That NM lake was S of the highway, but don't remember if it was 10 or 8. I don't always drive those trips in that area because I always drive the 10pm to 4am shift out of San Francisco. We did Texas 5 times.
It is possible the lake in the NM mountains either closed or got a name change.
Just like my Army 1Y, when I told anyone, they'd just say "what?", and roll their eyes like I was crazy.

Low water but the parking, launch, and lack of crowds are hard to beat. Still foiling up by the buoys for a little while longer.

Should this thread start talk about alternative spots, from S Big Sur to UCSB?
