Can they actually do that? I agree that it would be a disaster, but I don't recall of ever having, seeing, or hearing of it actually happen.

Both I and My Kokatat have also wondered this. I've heard the argument,
but have never heard of or from anyone to which it actually happened.
(Maybe they're all in Davey Jones Locker).

It has happened. As kids, we were out in a nice breeze. A friend used his brother's one-piece bag suit purchased for dinghy sailing. He was laughing about his water filled legs as we bobbed just offshore. Little did he realize sitting on the board tore the suit even more. We jumped in to swim the boards to shore, but he struggled and suddenly sank to the bottom, only 7-8 feet down. I swam down and helped him back to the surface.

I have a friend who’s a kiter, a few years ago while wave sailing, he got hit by a wave and it blew open the relief zipper on his Ocean Rodeo drysuit. Easily could have flooded his suit. Definitely one of the reasons why I’m hesitant to go the drysuit route.

switched from dry suits to O'neil pyro tech 5.5/4 wetsuits for winter sailing and never looked back. Much better for wave sailing and SUPing.

"Winter Sailing".... that is easy for me; I just select whichever of ice, hard packed snow or a parking lot has a workable surface & wind.
"Winter windsurfing" is now beyond my tolerance for cold & danger & has been beyond that tolerance for at least 10-15 years. Kudos to those in cold weather places still brave enough to do it. Last Tuesday I spent at least 90 minutes walking between minus 8 F and minus 4 F; I can take cold weather, but that is just not the same as being in, or risking being in cold water. |

Has anyone who's switched to a full neoprene drysuit/wetsuit for winter sailing used a baggy top drysuit beforehand, to compare?
I used a neoprene drysuit, which sucked, then a Bare and then a O'Neill baggy top, they were the warmest suits ever (before they became permeable after 2 years). I am afraid to go back to full neoprene... |

| Got a Promotion Dimension dry suit wear it in 30,s air water @ wind pretty warm and dry got a heated wetsuit vest to wear under it only got to try it once before water froze up toasty warm got to shut it off.promotion suit 4m legs wear 7m O’Neil booties good for a few hours if wind cooperates |
