Yo Wind Junkies!

Road trip season is near. We're beginning to put together some plans for an ultimate van build. Currently traveling in a Tacoma w/Four Wheel Camper. It's been a great ride for the past 7 years, but we're thinking of coming back to the van world. Loading and unloading gear on the roof of the camper is getting old.

Let's see some pictures! Pros/Cons? Doesn't need to be anything as tricked out as this one!

But, I'd love to hear what you guys have done. We're contemplating a Sprinter 4x4 170 ext.

Cheers!

The van in the youtube video is a Julia Camper Gran Turisme that's been customized.....at LEAST $50,000 (used!).

I've had two windsurfing vans that I modified to make work for sleeping in. The last one was a 1994 Ford E150 that was super comfy and reliable. I think I got it for $2200 and put maybe another $300 into it. I stored every piece of gear I owned in it: 4 boards, 4 masts, 6 sails, etc....

If you do not require a kitchen and bathroom in your vehicle, you can modify pretty much any custom or cargo van. They are widely available for ~$5000 for a good used one.

Check the archives. We've had many long discussions containing beaucoup ideas and photos. The van-to-motorhome conversion I designed and fabricated exceeded my expectations and needs for 12 years, but I don't recommend that to anyone but masochists. It took too damned long.
