I need assistance on removing a stripped stainless steel screw from power box which is connected to fin .
Has anyone had this problem and how was it solved , steps would be appreciated . I am very frustrated this has occurred. First time in 30 years of windsurfing .
Thanks

If the head is stripped, use a screw extractor from a hardware store or a bud.

If it's the barrel nut that's stripped, spin up the screw until you can just pull the screw out by hand.

I would drill the head off the screw. Use a left hand bit and maybe it will come out before the head falls off.

sounds like the fin is still on the board

if it is a little loose, i would try pulling down on the fin while
pulling up on the screw with a pair of pliers all the whilst
turning the screw counter clock wise

bonne chance !!

Sounds like you stripped the head of screw and you simply can't get enough "bite" with any screw driver to get the screw out. Like Iso suggested - you can purchase a screw extractor bit from your hardware store or probably local auto parts store. How it works: You drill a small diameter hole into the head of the screw - the hole diameter has to be sized for the extractor bit you purchased. The bit then screws into the hole reversed thread so as you tighten the bit it actually will be backing out your stripped screw. A little patience and it works perfectly.

Good luck.

Agree with the other posts - either a screw extractor or just drill off the head.

On a related note- several years ago I switched from traditional phillips head fin screws to socket head cap screws (allen head screws). I install with a T-handle allen wrench and it works great. Much better than a phillips screw driver. The socket head is less prone to stripping out and the T-handle wrench can be torqued more easily than a regular screwdriver.
