Too little, too late. The damage has already been done.

Coulter is a horrible person, I have watched her justify Trump's lies for years, and rationalize his stupid wall. She is often as cruel and smug as Trump.
Trump's competence was always the question, and doing things with cruel folks at the border rather than with political coalitions in Congress means that virtually nothing but the tax cuts will be left.

I agree that Trump could have organized a consensus over our broken immigration policies to achieve meaningful reform. There was a bi-partisan proposal that came out of the Senate that was a platform, and Trump couldn't have calmed down the most extreme of the copperheads to toughen that up a bit but still secure the votes. No. Put kids in cages and try to back out of a legal settlement was the approach.

Same problem with regulation. I agree that there is a thicket of regulations that could be simplified, and many don't provide a commensurate benefit. The only marginally competent people working on this were the oil company lobbyists. But in many many cases they went after the wrong things, and were so sloppy in process that a large share of their efforts were overturned or incomplete. A combination of incompetence, hubris, and overreach.

For Coulter to finally admit that she has been worshipping a false god, and to admit that he is a user not a doer is small consolation for the damage she did justifying his lying, incompetence, and cruelty.

ISO’s response raises an interesting question; who is truly a RINO? The Republican party is supposed to uphold the Constitution and believe in the “rule of law”. By definition wouldn’t ISO & the rest of the Trumpanzees who attempted sedition to violate millions of legal Constitutional votes be the RINO’s and those who opposed the attempted coup be the true Republican’s?

Do you clowns not realize how meaningless yet another 1 or 100 impeachments is if the House has a sufficient percentage of Dems and RINOS to pass yet another impeachment every week? Do you not realize that intelligent voters on either side of each election will quickly -- let's say by 2022 -- get sick and tired of their elected representatives the public will get when the Congress gets even LESS accomplished because their leftard majority is completely devoted to a senseless vendetta....

Oh, Jesus Christ, mac ... I haven't even looked at your no-doubt-stupid post, but the title alone reinforces our conclusion made years ago that forums serve only one purpose for you: stir up the porta potty, add still more shit to it, and pour it into the parking lot to see how much trouble and hatred you can generate among a group who should be friends

.OF COURSE it's the woman's right to choose ... WHETHER TO SPREAD HER LEGS. Beyond that point biology takes over. Neither she nor Obama has the right to let a viable newborn die on the slab just because Mommy Dearest no longer wants it.

And even though I was born and raised in rural Alabama in the '40s, '50s and '60s, including finishing high school in Montgomery in 1961, I haven't been back there in decades. In just one year in Montgomery and a trip through it a few years later, I personally saw a nighttime KKK march through a neighborhood, MLK's subsequent march into Montgomery from Selma, and Negroes/colored people (those were the preferred term for them back then) forcing whites off the downtown sidewalks on a daily basis. But Rebel flags? Very rare back then.

Certified videos prove that mac, Chandler, vientocaliente, Dean, Obama, Billy Graham, Mother Theresa, Kamala Harris, and Joe Biden gleefully eat/ate deep-fried fried human babies for breakfast.

Nothing personal, you idiots (including the non-blacks who support such total bullshit), but how about a free FUCK YOU, you greedy bastards? Get a freaking job, invent something special, and consider WORKING for life's rewards, just like everybody else had to do.

As impeachment trial nears, Trump has no legal defense team

Quote:
Though the details of Donald Trump's upcoming Senate impeachment trial are still unclear, the Democratic-led House appears ready for the proceedings. Last week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced a nine-member team of impeachment "managers," led by Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), a former constitutional lawyer, to prosecute the case.

As for the defendant, the defense team remains ... unresolved.

As recently as Saturday, Rudy Giuliani told ABC News that he was "working on" Trump's legal defense in the impeachment matter. This was at least somewhat surprising: there were multiple reports last week that Trump had soured on the former New York City mayor and had even instructed aides not to pay the attorney's legal fees.

This morning, Giuliani reversed course, telling ABC News that because he spoke at the pre-riot rally, he is "a witness and therefore unable to participate in court or in the Senate chamber."

So, what happened in the 48 hours in between? The New York Times reported:

Mr. Trump met with Mr. Giuliani on Saturday night at the White House, and the next day the president began telling people that Mr. Giuliani was not going to be part of the team. It is unclear who will be a defense lawyer for Mr. Trump, given that many attorneys have privately said they won't represent him.

This is all getting a little weird. Giuliani says he's working on impeachment, then says the opposite. Trump tells him he won't be on the team, except it's not at all clear who is on the team.

commey was a coward and got trump elected the first time. He is a lifelong republican now independent because of the guy he got elected by going public against department standards and telling the public Hillary is being investigated again.

Comey: 'Republican Party has to be burned to the ground'

Quote:

Comey told Australia's ABC "7.30" news program that the GOP "doesn't stand for anything that is valuable to our country."

"It doesn't stand for anything, that is other than a cult of personality around a man who is a demagogue and a liar," he added.

The longtime Republican, who now describes himself as an independent, told the news outlet that "the Republican Party has to be burned to the ground, in some form or fashion."

"If it's going to survive, and we need two healthy parties to have a healthy democracy, it has to be rebuilt in some way," he added. "I think you may see principled Republicans splitting off or finding a way to push the Trumpers off, so they can reconstitute the Republican Party on a set of real values."

Comey told The Guardian earlier this week that the party's decline began well before Trump with Tea Party figures such as former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R).

"The Republican Party needs to be burned down or changed," Comey told the British outlet. "Something is shifting and I'm hoping it's the fault breaking apart, a break between the Trumpists and those people who want to try and build a responsible conservative party, because everybody should know that we need one.

"Who would want to be part of an organization that at its core is built on lies and racism and know-nothingism? It's just not a healthy political organization."

Comey, who led the FBI from 2013 until Trump fired him in 2017, became a vocal critic of the now-former president and has repeatedly called on Republicans to move on from him.

As many called for Trump to face retribution for his role in the deadly riot by his supporters at the U.S. Capitol earlier this month, Comey said in an interview on "Today" last week that while he believes it is "important" for Trump to be impeached, the worst punishment would be to ignore him completely once he leaves office.

"I still think it would be better for this country if we move past a fallen and corrupt president, and turned off the television lights on him, which in some ways, would be the greatest punishment he could imagine," Comey said.

The House last week voted to impeach Trump, charging him with inciting the violence at the Capitol with his repeated unproven claims that the 2020 presidential election was "stolen" from him through widespread voter fraud.

Senate Republicans uniting behind impeachment defense

Senate Republicans are coalescing around a long-shot bid to dismiss the impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump before it even begins, relying on a disputed legal argument that says putting an ex-president on trial is unconstitutional.

https://www.mediaite.com/news/most-americans-want-trump-convicted-and-banned-for-life-in-impeachment-trial-even-1-in-5-republicans/

Most Americans Want Trump Convicted and Banned for Life in Impeachment Trial — Even 1 in 5 Republicans

Quote:
Support for impeaching, removing, and banning former President Donald Trump from federal office for life is at 55 percent, with just 31 percent strongly opposed to those penalties.

Senate Republicans have been projecting an aura of inevitability for a Trump acquittal to reporters, but a poll released this week indicates this will not be an easy vote for senators in states with large numbers of Democrats and Independents — and even Republicans to some degree.

The events themselves present enough of a problem, beyond the politics. Trump is being impeached for inciting an insurrection at the Capitol that killed 5 people, during which participants constructed a gallows and chanted “Kill Mike Pence!”

The two highest-ranking Republicans in Congress have already publicly blamed Trump for the attack.

In addition to those facts, this week’s Morning Consult poll shows a large majority of Americans — including a significant minority of Republicans — support removing and banning Trump.

Among registered voters, 55 percent favor convicting, removing, and banning Trump — a full 6 points higher than the highest point in the polling average for Trump’s first impeachment — and banning Trump for life was not on the table in those polls.

That includes 85 percent of Democrats, 49 percent of Independents, and 20 percent of Republicans. And 31 percent — less than a third — of Republicans strongly oppose the penalties.

Trump and DOJ lawyer devised plan to oust the acting attorney general: Report

[quote]Jeffrey Clark, who was the department's civil division acting head, and the president were convinced that then-acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen was not doing enough to challenge the results of the November election, according to the New York Times, which cited four former Trump administration officials.

As soon as Rosen was appointed to his acting role on Dec. 15, the president began to pressure him on the matter, urging him to appoint special counsels to investigate accusations of widespread voter fraud, according to the New York Times. Rosen reportedly refused, telling the president that the department had found no evidence of such a phenomenon.

Clark allegedly drafted a letter that he wanted the Justice Department to send to legislators in Georgia who claimed that the department was investigating accusations of voter fraud in the state, urging them to void Biden's win. Rosen and then-Deputy Attorney General Richard Donoghue allegedly refused to send it.

On the weekend after New Year's Eve, Clark reportedly met with the president to discuss his strategy. Clark then called Rosen on Sunday to inform him that the president intended to remove Rosen from the post and replace him with Clark. Rosen demanded to hear the news directly from the president, according to the report.

The department's senior leaders allegedly called one another and agreed that if Rosen was ousted, they would resign en masse.

When the president met with Rosen and Clark, the two presented their arguments. Two officials compared the scene to an episode of The Apprentice, according to the New York Times. In the end, the president decided not to fire Rosen, apparently being swayed by the idea that doing so would bring chaos to the department and possible recriminations from those in his own party.

Trump and the Department of Justice did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Clark denied that he was part of any plot to remove Rosen.

He said, "There was a candid discussion of options and pros and cons with the president. It is unfortunate that those who were part of a privileged legal conversation would comment in public about such internal deliberations, while also distorting any discussions."
