Oh, yeah!
Three questions:
1). What was the wind speed, approximately?
2). Hard to estimate chop height on gopro vids ...how high do you think it was?
3). What made you finally dial it back at the end? Feeling of enough is enough, or were you monitoring for 35 mph in real time? |

It was very gusty this day. From 3 closest meters, base wind(south 180 degrees) was 17 mph to 28. Gusts were 30 to 40 mph. Peak gust 44 mph. Don't like the wind, wait 15min. At the beginning of the vid I'm so close to the dam that I'm in its shadow waiting for a gust to come over. To the east of the dam is a spot where there's not much treeline and the wind can come straight off the flat farm fields of IL as I try to setup an offshore speed spot.

And in SuperView it's even more squashed. At the launch it was 2 feet high. By heading up wind 3/4 of a mile I was able to reduce it to 1 foot whitecaps. I was 100 yards from shore. The dam pool (1 of 14 spots on the lake) is 50 feet deep. A SSW wind would allow me to get closer to that shore and hopefully find "buzzed" water. Next time.

I was entering the total shadow of the treeline. When I came to a stop I was in glassy water. I had to swim back to the wind-line.
Wind graphs and map and more on the day in link.
