Cabrillo sensor

WTF.....is it broken? Why did it nuke there today? No place else had much wind today.....any onsite reports?

my SoCal buddies said it was the windiest day in 10 years at Cabrillo. People blown off the water. That said, the sensor does read high. Bigger dudes were saying 5.0 was too much. One friend was on 4.2/85... gear normally reserved for AL or PSC. He almost never sails a 4.6 at Cabrillo... usually 5.2/102

Also, the wind was very up and down... the aforementioned guy rigged three times but ultimately ended up on the correct gear

Sounds similar to what we dealt with further north in SoCal. I had the misfortune of "knowing" the conditions couldn't be too much for my 104L quad. A block from my house I thought, "I should really get a smaller board just in case." Nah...that would have been the right call.

Got to the coast and considered rigging my 5.0M Guru, but being that I usually rig too small, I went with my 5.3M Banzai. Well-powered to OP'd while wishing I had listened to my smarter angel and rigged my 5.0M. After an hour of OP'd sailing, I rigged my 5.0 and headed for the water. Before I got to do the rock-dance at the water's edge, my buddy came in, looked at me with my 5.0M on the 104L, and shook his head saying, "No way, dude".

So I went to my car and got my 4.7M, just to be closer to a comfortably powered state. By the time I got back to the sand the wind backed off to where my 5.0M would be fine. 20 minutes into the session, and barely making a waterstart on the far outside, I realized that I should have kept the 5.3M up. I may have called it a day after that. But guys were still getting decent waves and were powered on 5.0-5.6M sails.

So yes, the wind was a bit unpredictable. If my 5.3M was a less direct-power design, like a Guru perhaps, I probably would have had it rigged for the whole day. But it wouldn't have been easy at times. Ah windsurfing...
