Interesting you wingers did not kiteboard.
Also, while Dale...and Mike-Bruce jump higher than anything, they did not have the hang time coming down. |

how do you know they didn't? I had a brief stint with kiting in the early 2000s... before 4-line kites. Actually, the kite I owned was the Wipika Free Air 9m... the biggest you could buy at the time. You could roll the wing tip up and zip tie it to convert to 4-line. That was state of the art at the time. lol
I was also fairly new to windsurfing at that time. I spent many weekends at Alameda with my kite setup and a Techno and 7.2 NP Diablo. It was hardly ever windy enough to kite, but I could almost always slog upwind and out to the wind line 100 yards off the beach and plane on the Techno and 7.2, so eventually I just sold my kite stuff.

WingFoiling curious. This season will hopefully learn to windsurf foil. The trends over the past few years have been increasing light (sub F5) days. Maybe next season wing foiling. Might be fun to rip upwind and foil ride the swells home.
Wing foiling. Sort of going over to the dark side (aka el kiteaaa)😁. Or maybe just another option for time on the water. |

Possible misconception?
Rec foiling.
Windfoil does go upwind like powered slalom, but in sub 18 breezes, there is little windswell to precariously balance on coming downwind.
There is no "RIP in windfoiling. BALANCE is the word that captures windfoiling. Like tightrope balance, precise centering, precise centering of feet.
Windsurfing is closer to "rip". Lean, project, G force.
While Balz is getting close to how we rip in windsurfing, his windfoil rip is a shadow of his windsurf ripping. |
