I am well aware that Covid 19 is not the same as the flu. That's not the point.........it is the likely impact. China has had three months experience of this. Relative to a normal flu season, a small number have been infected and the the large majority have recovered. This in a country with nowhere near our medical systems. The numbers simply don't support your assertion that this is 20 times more deadly. Are you suggesting that we will have 20 times more deaths than a bad flu season?

That's rich coming from you. All your posts on this subject have been critical of the Administration's response. I have merely recited the facts as a counter to your assertions, which in my view, are unbalanced and unfair, echoing the original post by GT. Over and out.

With the death toll now over one million, it is important to remember the quislings who defended the incompetence of the previous administration. Indeed, way more than 20 times the deaths.

The latest W.H.O. calculation of excess deaths from Covid per 100.000 people for all countries, reveal that the global average is 96. The European average is 170, and the United States average is 140.

The U.K. average (the early mass vaccination program) comes in at the lower end with a figure of 109. and, surprise, Sweden , which did not introduce full lockdowns and was heavily lambasted by all the 'experts' comes in at the bottom end, with a figure of only 56.

Draw your own conclusions. Vaccines are the answer!

GT--you are right, vaccines are the answer. It is sad that vaccination was used as a wedge issue in this country--it is part of the reason that our excess death rate is so high.

We have also learned a tremendous amount, and the unpredictability of the virus can be seen in the accelerated infection rates of countries like Germany, which were initially successful.

In retrospect, where vision is clearer, tamping down infections while vaccines were developed was the optimum strategy. While mutations have made the virus more infectious, vaccination has saved hundreds of thousands of lives, if not millions.

Non Covid deaths are way up across the board. Why? Could it be the vaccine?

The triumph of paranoia. Trumps thinking. The right wing has built a movement to hate science and facts. Plenty of kool aid in Malibu.

Apparently you did not read the sub title of the article: "Companies believe lack of medical treatment during pandemic has contributed to deaths from other causes"

Read much? Rolling Eyes

Precisely.

Because of the total focus on the Covid pandemic, and the potential (in some countries actual) overwhelming of hospital and health services, the early diagnosis and treatment of other serious illnesses such as cancer had to be put on hold.

Such was the fear of Covid (pre vaccination) that many people with worrying developing symptoms preferred to stay away and wait anyway. Tragically for many it is now too late to prevent their illness to take full effect. Death rates are rising as a result. (Estimates of at least a couple of years for it all to work through the system.)

Your conclusion is very wrong Steven.

Government initiated censorship does bother me. Private company initiated censorship of free speech does not. See the difference?

I don't care that CNN, Fox news, Facebook or Twiter censor free speech; they are private companies and have a right to broadcast what they feel their viewers want to hear or see. I visit someone's house, they lay the ground rules. If I don't like the rules I am free to go to another house or STFU. Crying about free speech violation in their house is not an option.

Coachg

I take issue this way with that,
one we have determined in a private business a movie theatre one can not use free speech argument to yell "fire" when there is not one; obviously as it can harm innocent person we have determined we can set limits to business places. To me much the same as needed to set limits on lies over the internet much the same we do with media that can be found liable for having lies by them that harm people. And if I understand correctly there is a differentiation between if you call yourself news vs entertainment as FUX news has argued in court that they are entertainment so not to be held to a high standard of truth.

I believe since right wingers believe they are getting truth from outlets like alex jones, Fux, facebook that they should be held to a status of media has to deal by. And if they do not like it get out of that business. and no more hiding under mommies skirt like FUX does. IE you lie and you should be held legally responsible.

After all the right wing demanded CBS fire all who were involved in the rathergate, which many lost their jobs and to date the information in those records has never been proven inaccurate. Even Bush SR former attorney general who did the investigation found he could not prove the events as described did not happen. as a matter of fact I estimate it greater than 1 billion to one they were not accurate. So it proves via the right-wing doctrine if any liberal cannot prove beyond 99.9999999999 percent that are accurate than the same should apply to FUX and Alex Jones lying hate media.
