Aloha!
Thinking of manual replacement of the currently patched lower panel of a sail. Where folks buy materials for sail repair? Would be cool if I could find blue x-ply or at least clear x-ply. And all the other related stuff (e.g. double sided sticky tape etc.)
Thanks!
Andrei. |

Have you called a loft to see what sources they recommend for such a small quantity? Northwave Sails (the only loft making sails in the U.S.) comes to mind ... 541-386-6156. IIRC, someone posted here that the tolerances for sail panel dimensions run in fractions of a millimeter if you want the sail to perform as designed. |

Thank you for your reply and suggestions.
Will try Northwave Sails (I have one of their sails) and maybe Sailworks.
Not sure about the point regarding tolerances within a millimeter. There is more stretch in those materials between derigged and rigged state. Nevertheless, panels are replaceable, this is lower panel, it is not blown, just a few patched cracks. Laying flat, tracing, cutting should be easy. I have a good pair of hands and already had done some unstitching/stitching. And there are plenty of videos on the web.

Has to be a commercial company that sells material. Thinking they may require a large amount to be interested.
I like both suggestions, a donor sail, or Northwave.
I have small panels , but can’t part with them. _________________ K4 fins

I am currently traveling, but when I get home in very early Jan 2020, I can provide you with the materials you need, including double stick tape and perhaps UV bonded thread. Bob Thompson, the sail repair guy in Corpus Christi email: thombiz@yahoo.com |
