Back in the day Gulftech had a tray filled with mineral spirits that they would soak the boom in overnight. The grip and contact cement came off fairly easy. I have used a modified version of this with good success. I use the long slender clear visqueen bag a mast comes in. I slip the visqueen bag over the boom arm. One end will already be sealed. I pour about 16 oz. of mineral spirits in the bag and and put a rubber band over the unsealed end, then prop up the boom in such a was as the mineral spirits make the most contact with the boom arm. Leave overnight and usually the next day the grip and glue will come off easily by rubbing with a rag.
