Hey all,
I moved to the Bay Area this fall and am looking for some suggestions on sail sizes for foiling here. I sold almost all of my random mismatched gear before I moved, and now am investing in newer (probably still used) stuff.
For ref, I’m about 140lbs and I’m an intermediate foiler. I ride a Wizard 105 and was almost always using an infinity 84 wing because it allowed me to get out in the super light winds in the Seattle area. I’ve been out in the gorge probably 7-8 days. I’ve used 2.5-6.4 with my setup with success.
I haven’t been out yet but I’ve been scouting locations and looking for gear. I think I’d probably mostly sail at crissy, coyote point and half moon bay on the inside.
I’m thinking about going 3.3/4.0/5.0, paired with my Wizard 105/infinity 84. I’ll probably get a smaller 65 wing at some point. I think I’d like to get out from 15mph to 25mph wind speeds... but not too sure of what’s typical here yet. I used to go out in sub 15 a lot.. not sure if I will here. Still learning conditions.
Any thoughts? What sizes are people foiling on around the bay? Stoked to get out and sail with people here! |

You got the right light wind setup.
Bay can blow anything, but most often changes a lot while you're in the water.
Any given day can be 5-19 with bigger gusts and lighter slots out to the windline. |

We foil daily at Crissy on all the different sizes. Come down today and we can talk. I'm also on slingshot gear and got lot's to spares to demo. I don't think you'll need the 84 that much here though. Winds are pretty solid. You'll need a 65 and 76 mostly. Since you're 140, 5.0 and smaller is all the sails you'll need.
We have the Crissy Field Swap on April 4 but message me on FB if you want to chat.
Sail On!
