Four years later, seeing the Lynch tarmac 'controversy' in a new light
Everyone who took the Lynch story seriously should face a follow-up question: are Trump's DOJ efforts as outrageous as the June 2016 tarmac chat?

Quote:
In June 2016, Bill Clinton had a chat on a tarmac with then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch, and according to everyone involved, it was a fairly brief and inconsequential social interaction. Such conversations are not uncommon when prominent political figures are in the same place at the same time.

But as Politico reported at the time, then-candidate Donald Trump, among other Republicans, went a little berserk during a radio interview in response to the "controversy."

"It is an amazing thing," Trump said. "I heard about it last night. They actually went on to the plane as I understand it. That's terrible. And it was really a sneak. It was really something that they didn't want publicized as I understand it. Wow, I just think it's so terrible, I think it's so horrible."

Though the then-presumptive Republican nominee didn't really explain why, exactly, he found the social interaction so upsetting, Trump nevertheless called the matter one of "the biggest" stories of 2016, adding that that the issue was "massive" and "amazing."

He wasn't alone. Much of the political world was hair-on-fire outraged about the mere possibility of political interference involving the nation's chief law enforcement official. As regular readers may recall, Americans were told it was wildly inappropriate for the former president to engage the sitting attorney general in conversation.

Why? Because according to those who saw the tarmac chat as scandalous, Bill Clinton might've used the opportunity to pressure a top Justice Department official, which could've had the effect of influencing the direction of prosecutorial decisions.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7229891/Now-Attorney-General-Bill-Barr-says-ISNT-recusing-Jeffrey-Epstein-prosecution.html

Now attorney general Bill Barr says he ISN'T recusing himself from Epstein sex case despite saying he was ruling himself out of making decisions - and having family link to pedophile
The attorney general had said Monday that he would recuse himself from oversight of prosecution of Jeffrey Epstein
But less than 24 hours later a Justice Department official said he was not recused meaning Barr could help steer the case as the top federal prosecutor
Instead Barr is recused from review of conduct of Alex Acosta, the Labor Secretary, over his handling of Epstein's prosecution in 2008
Barr also has family link to Epstein: His father Donald hired Epstein in 1973 to be tutor at elite Manhattan private school despite being a college dropout

Astonishing. Evidence of the collapse of the American education system. A full embrace of fascism.

You were correct all the way up to your last word, it's actually socialism that our graduates were never taught how it fails to work. Far too many graduates as well as drop-outs mistakenly feel the Bern.

You can't even define "socialism".

I think that it has less to do with a failed education system, and that it's more a universal characteristic of humans that about 50% are at risk of falling for bad actors.

too many of the right wing idiots on this forum really think Trump U is the way to go. Pam Bondi certainly is all for Trump U after she got her bribe from trump. She did not even show up for class to make big bucks for working part time.

Did you hear of Trump re-tweeting Larry David’s MAGA episode? The President is a master of seeing what you want to see and not what is really there. I think that is a human trait. It is just more common with those who are Trump believers.

Holder blasts AG Barr 'aberrant' behavior, DOJ Official warns of 'Tuesday Night Massacre'

Quote:
President Trump and Attorney General Bill Bar are working together to lower Trump’s convicted aide Roger Stone’s prison sentence. As President Trump congratulates Barr for “taking charge,” Trump’s DOJ faces scrutiny from former federal prosecutor Joyce Vance who accuse Barr of using the Department as a political weapon. The scandal has forced prosecutors to resign, causing former federal prosecutors to warn of another “Tuesday Night Massacre;” former Attorney General Eric Holder adds Trump is working to “endanger the fabric of our democracy.” MSNBC Chief Legal Correspondent Ari Melber reports on Trump’s attempt to undercut Special Counsel Mueller’s probe and how his intervention defeats the purpose of an “independent counsel.”

Not fit for office': George H. W. Bush lawyer and Barr colleague slams Barr for 'undermining' DOJ

Quote:
Former Deputy Attorney General Donald Ayer joins MNSBC Chief Legal Correspondent Ari Melber to discuss AG Bill Barr’s intervention in DOJ cases to protect convicted Trump aide Roger Stone. Ayer, who also preceded Barr as deputy attorney general under President George H. Bush, argues Barr’s “pattern of conduct that he’s engaged in since he came in” as Attorney General involves “intervening out of usual course to protect Donald Trump.” Ayer adds Barr is not “fit for the office” and his “campaign” as AG works to “undermine the Department of Justice.”
