A lot of new cars have a removeable valet key inside the expensive electronic fob. Valet key only opens the car but doesn't allow the ignition to start. It also can get wet.

The other part of the equation is making sure that your electronic FOB is not just sitting in the car otherwise the thief can just drive away if they break into your car. I'd recommend an RFID proof pouch for your key while away from the car to prevent this.

I don't worry too much when an ad uses "it's" when they mean "its", or use "him and I" instead of "him and me" or "he and I", but MAN ... I'd be concerned about a company's service or guarantee when the entire ad looks like it was scrawled on a yak hide by a 10-yo native Flooglestani who has taken one English lesson. Im umazed Amazon wood approove this add as writed.

Isobars-I have no idea what you are talking about. Congrats on hitting the 20,000 Iwindsurf comment milestone. Not an easy feat.

Must be how the pouch is advertised on Amazon. A lot of time has passed since the memo went out how Amazon's a dumping ground for rubbish that doesn't do the job. Maybe Gucci carries these things too if that's more to taste. /sarc
At any rate, this one item looks like a pretty inconsequential buy in case it turns out that it doesn't work.

Put FOB in pouch-car doesn't start. Pretty straightforward. Highly recommend.

This is what I've been using for years. It has never failed me. I put my FOB inside, string the lanyard through my boardshorts loop, fold it in half and zip it in my pocket. No other waterproof bag that I have tried has worked.

With Toyotas you can separate the mechanical key from the electronic fob. The mechanical key can get wet so you take that with you. Before leaving the fob in the car you can turn it off by pressing lock and unlock simultaneously for a few seconds. This will allow you to lock the car with the fob inside. The car will not start until you press unlock on the fob. It's a good idea to hide the fob when you leave it inside the car. Another approach is to have a separate mechanical key cut that you leave in your wet suit or harness at all times and hide the electronic key inside the car. If the car won't let the doors lock with the electronic key inside you have to turn off the electronic key following instructions in the owner's manual.
