Maybe you should consider ignoring the leftist hype to defund the police & Black Lives Matter, and spend more money on additional police and higher wages.
Any argument that says that the police must ignore minor crimes because major crimes are out of control is nutty. Par for Calif.
Quote: | California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Monday that his state had secured a $75.7 billion — yes, billion — budget surplus on top of $27 billion from the federal government. The Sacramento government is getting the extra cash thanks to the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan enacted by President Biden in March. |
I wonder of any of that money is going to law enforcement? |

Why should it? 1/3 of people polled are ignorant of the fact that crime has increased by 50-300% under the Defund the Police movement. |

techno900, would you be so naive to think that petty crimes like shoplifting don't exist in your state or other red states? Like it or not, police and those in the judiciary sometimes have to decide where to spend the dollars they have, especially if local jail facilities are often busting at the seams with overpopulation problems.
I have to ask, do you think that local police departments need to be funded to provide manpower to protect each and every retail business out there? Do you think that retail businesses have some responsibility themselves to guard against shoplifters? If things are so bad, maybe they can start setting up counters where all their inventory is behind them and customers can no longer roam the store and shop for themselves. Then again, maybe all shopping should be done online where you pay before receiving what you bought.
Regarding spending more on the police, does that mean that the added funds will be spent on fighting crime and violence? Whose to say whether they would instead put more manpower on traffic and parking enforcement because it generates more revenue. Maybe they would step up and buy a bunch of sophisticated military vehicles and weaponry with all the popularity in public protesting these days. |

Add in 35 million new guns bought during covid, the financial and mental stress of covid, mix in Donald Trumps hate to everyone not named Donald Trump and you have a perfect storm of chaos, hate and mental problems. Add in some Fox news hysteria spreading false lie about covid, spreading false lies about masks, bleach and sunlight, false lies about Trumps election loss, false lies about an deadly and violent Trump insurrection attempt, false lies about vaccine science and BINGO, Americana is stressed to the max.
Crime is up everywhere Techno. In rural red Wisconsin we’ve had cars broken into on very rural driveways just in the last few weeks. First time for everything I guess.
Should we hire more police to patrol my driveway so kids can go to jail? A little honesty about the real situation would go a long way.
Guns, Guns, GUNS, Covid, masks, no masks, masks, no masks, Trumps fantastical lies, more Trump fantastical lies, financial stress, work stress, family stress… America is fractured in many places Techno. BINGO! |

Of course it is. For many local governments, police are as much as half their annual general fund budget. But police are not the best way to deal with the mentally ill. From the sky-high cost simply to transport someone in crisis, to responding to a call about someone walking down the street talking to Jesus, or stark naked.
It doesn’t take any knowledge for Techno to fear the “other” and yell “get off my lawn.” Sad. |

If it keeps people like you & Iso out it must be working pretty well.

I agree with this...
2021 is on track for having the most gun killings in twenty years. A group of Trump supporters stormed the capitol to try and overthrow our peaceful transition of power. GOP state assemblies and governors are attempting to silence the vote of many across the country.
Yet, Techno blames progressives...figures.
Look in the mirror, Techno. You were responsible for the election of the most divisive President in our history. The vitriol generated during those four years has had a profound affect on our society. Yeah. Many of us saw this coming and called out Trump and his minions. We were told to shut up. Or, we were told we were the divisive ones for not playing along.
We live at 9000 ft in a tiny town. Town Hall was closed yesterday because of death threats, by right wingers, to town staff and elected officials over...get this...the choice by a public official to not stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. We lock our doors now. The town is being overrun by flag waving idiots from Texas who still display Trump signs as they speed around on ATV's. The change in our town is dramatic and disturbing and it is NOT caused by the granola eating lefties.
We all share in this issue of divisiveness. But, I am getting pretty sick of the sanctimony expressed the "God fearing" right. If you folks on the right don't think there will be backlash for your behavior and policies, then you are not paying attention. |

Techno comes from the lazy, fact free world. Crime has been going down for decades, driven mostly by the aging of the population. In California, property crime has declined from a high rate of 7000 per 100,000 residents in 1982 to 1000 in 2019. Violent crime has declined from 2500 per in 1992 to under 500 in 2019. https://www.ppic.org/publication/crime-trends-in-california/
I believe similar trends have been observed nationwide. There has been an uptick in crime over the pandemic, but neither Techno nor Fox has a clue why--so they blame it on progressives. Is it fair, or true, to give progressives in California credit for cutting the rate of violent crime to 1/5 of what it was? Only in the minds of people who can't comprehend statistics or multivariate analysis. And angry old men who are fearful of the other and don't understand what is currently happening, or the trends, blame the current rise on progressives. Sad. Sadder think of such closed minds teaching kids. Even in private schools. |
