At Least 9 Far-Right Insurrectionists Have A History Of Violence Against Women

Quote:
The message popped up on Katya Brock’s phone just after 10 a.m. one morning in September: “Do the right thing and kill yourself already.”
She was alarmed, but no more so than she had been by all the other messages: “I have better things to do than speak to a whore”; “Nobody loves you”; “Narcissistic whore.” Her ex-husband, Larry Rendall Brock Jr., had been sending them like clockwork for three years. A court had ordered the couple to communicate through a specialized portal while their contentious divorce was finalized. Larry often used it for threats.

“The stuff that he writes to me is brutal. You grow thick skin and try to filter it, but it’s hard,” said Katya, who shares a 6-year-old son with Larry. Katya said her ex-husband views women as “disposable” and has abused her throughout their four years of marriage and additional three years of separation.

Larry, a 53-year-old Air Force veteran, is one of the hundreds of insurrectionists who stormed the U.S. Capitol grounds on Jan. 6 and is now facing federal charges. He sported a combat helmet, a bulletproof vest and carried zip-tie handcuffs. His threats to Katya also went beyond those messages ― HuffPost uncovered numerous 911 calls from their home for domestic disputes, including one in 2016 in which Larry was described as making a “terroristic threat of family/household,” according to a police summary of the call.

Larry’s history of abusive behavior is part of an alarmingly common trend among the rioters who have been arrested so far for their roles in the insurrection. After reviewing police reports and court filings, a HuffPost investigation found that at least nine insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol have a history of violence against women ― ranging from domestic abuse accusations to prison time for sexual battery and criminal confinement.

Michigan's top GOP lawmaker: Jan. 6 Capitol attack was a 'hoax'

Quote:
All is not well in Michigan's Republican Party. Three months after a disappointing election cycle in the state -- Joe Biden flipped Michigan from "red" to "blue" at the presidential level, and Sen. Gary Peters (D) won re-election -- GOP leaders appear eager to move in an even more radical direction.

This past weekend, for example, the Michigan Republican Party elected its leadership team, following a process in which many contenders were evaluated based on their fealty to Trump and their opposition to 2020 election results. Soon after, the New York Times reported on the apparent "Republican alliance with paramilitary groups" in the state.

It was against this backdrop that the Detroit Free Press reported yesterday on the top GOP legislator in Michigan and his ridiculous ideas about the insurrectionist attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

Senate Majority leader Mike Shirkey, the highest ranking Republican elected official in Michigan, recently said he believes the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol was not carried out by supporters of former president Donald Trump, calling the idea a "hoax" and stating that the attack was "staged." ... A video of the meeting was first reported on by Detroit Metro Times.

"That wasn't Trump people. That's been a hoax from day one," Shirkey said in the video, adding, "It was all staged."

In the same recording, the GOP legislator also said, in refere

FBI Provides Proof of Incitement

Quote:
This is a court filing by the Department of Justice in the case of insurrectionist Jessica Watkins. http://cdn.cnn.com/cnn/2021/images/02/11/04518323725.pdf

The document is a brief in support of pre-trial detention. It's an argument that Watkins is so dangerous that she should be denied bail. It states that as part of her leadership role in the Oath Keepers and an Ohio "militia" that she "trained and plotted for a moment like this." She described it as "our duty as Americans to fight, kill and die for our rights.” In the words of the brief: “This was the grave threat that Watkins recruited new militia members to fight against."

However, it also makes clear that Watkins awaited Trump's order to act and would not act without it. In the words of the brief: "As the inauguration grew nearer, Watkins indicated that she was awaiting direction from President Trump."

On November 9th she wrote: "Unless the POTUS himself activates us, it’s not legit . . . If Trump asks me to come, I will. Otherwise, I can’t trust it.”

She then made clear that she believed Trump had given his marching orders. Near the end of December she wrote: “we plan on going to DC on the 6th” because “Trump wants all able bodied Patriots to come.” She then planned with others equipment to bring and tactics to employ in attacking the Capitol. As she did so she stated: "await orders to enter DC under permission from Trump, not a minute sooner.”

On January 4th, two days before she wrote:

“It is CRITICAL that all patriots who can be in DC get to DC to stand tall in support of President Trump’s fight to defeat the enemies foreign and domestic who are attempting a coup, through the massive vote fraud and related attacks on our Republic. We Oath Keepers are both honor-bound and eager to be there in strength to do our part.”

A member of the right-wing paramilitary group the Oath Keepers in the days leading up to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot proposed a plan to transport "heavy weapons" in a boat across the Potomac River, prosecutors said in a Thursday court filing.

Federal prosecutors made the allegation in a memo opposing a motion for release from the attorneys of Thomas Edward Caldwell, who along with fellow Oath Keeper members Jessica Marie Watkins and Donovan Crowl, faces conspiracy charges in connection with alleged plans to lead a coup ahead of the deadly pro-Trump mob attack.

Days before the attack, prosecutors in the court filing say Caldwell reached out to a member of the Three Percenters, an extremist gun rights militia, saying with "someone standing by at a dock ramp (one near the Pentagon for sure) we could have our Quick Response Team with the heavy weapons standing by, quickly load them and ferry them across the river to our waiting arms."

The revelation came the same day prosecutors in a separate memo called for Watkins to be held in jail without bail, saying she had been awaiting instructions from former President Trump in the days leading up to the attack.

Prosecutors say that in the days after the presidential election, Watkins told other militia members that she was awaiting cues from Trump before taking action against what the former president had been calling a stolen election.

Pentagon watchdog hits freshman Rep. Ronny Jackson with scathing report on tenure as White House physician

Quote:
WASHINGTON – The Pentagon’s watchdog agency has found that Ronny Jackson – the freshman Texas congressman and retired admiral who served as the top physician to the last two presidents – sexually harassed a subordinate in the White House Medical Office, routinely harangued underlings and, while on overseas trips, violated a ban on drinking and took sleeping pills that would have impaired his ability to treat the commander in chief in an emergency.

Some of the allegations surfaced when President Donald Trump picked him to run the Veterans Administration in spring 2018....

The inquiry opened in 2018.

Investigators interviewed 78 witnesses who worked under Jackson between 2012 and 2018. Of those, 56 “told us they personally experienced, saw, or heard about him yelling, screaming, cursing, or belittling subordinates.”

“Many of these witnesses described RDML Jackson’s behavior with words and phrases such as ‘meltdowns,’ ‘yells’ for no reason,’ ‘rages,’ ‘tantrums,’ ‘lashes out,’ and ‘aggressive.’ These witnesses also described RDML Jackson’s leadership style with terms such as ‘tyrant,’ ‘dictator,’ ‘control freak,’ ‘hallmarks of fear and intimidation,’ ‘crappy manager,’ and ‘not a leader at all,’” according to CNN’s account of the yet-to-be-released report.

The Trump White House stymied the inquiry, helping to stall its release until well after Jackson’s victories in a primary runoff and then the general election.

...
Four witnesses told investigators that during an April 22 to April 29, 2014, trip to Manila with President Barack Obama, Jackson got drunk and later pounded on the hotel room door of a female subordinate, telling her “I need you,” and, “I need you to come to my room.”

Other witnesses said that before they arrived in Manila, Jackson had made lewd comments about a woman who worked in the medical office and said that he wanted to “see more of her tattoos.”

That wasn’t the only time he was seen drinking alcohol during a presidential trip, in violation of regulations barring consumption within 24 hours of the president’s arrival. Witnesses described another incident two years later in Argentina.

At least as serious, a half-dozen or more medical personnel told investigators that Jackson Ambien, a prescription medicine used to induce drowsiness, during long overseas flights, potentially impairing his ability to react to an emergency.

Capitol Rioter Who Ransacked Nancy Pelosi’s Office Selling $100 Signed Photos of Himself to Pay Legal Bills

Quote:
One of the most notorious participants in the storming of the U.S. Capitol has set up an online fundraiser so people can help pay his lawyer’s fees by buying signed photographs of his actions on January 6th.

Richard Barnett, a resident of northern Arkansas, became a subject of public infamy months ago when he was prominently photographed after breaking into House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office, putting his feet up on her desk, and vandalizing the room. In the days following the riot, Barnett was one of many Trump supporters who were arrested for their involvement in the violent attempt to overthrow the results of the 2020 election.

Barnett is now facing federal indictments that include theft of government property, disorderly conduct, and unlawful entry into a restricted building. He pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, and even though he was released from federal custody in late April, he remains on house arrest while he awaits trial.

According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, a website has been set up calling itself the “Richard ‘Bigo’ Barnett Legal Defense Fund,” and it claims Barnett will send an autographed picture of himself in Pelosi’s chair “as a token of his appreciation” to those who contribute at least $100. For $25, the website says Barnett will send donors a copy of the court filing that granted his release from jail.

“We will not allow the federal government to bully Rich
