Windsurfing out to the point where you can barely see land is pretty impressive.
We were tuna fishing 5 miles off the tip of ptown once and thought we saw a small boat. Turned out to be a solo kayaker who was tuna fishing as well. The guy is well known, the only person to have landed a Bluefin from a yak.

Nahant, MA had side-off DTL conditions pretty often when I lived there, though not always with strong wind and big waves.
I think for any side-off spot, the number of sailable days increases a lot if you're willing to use bigger boards (all the way up to SUP size) and bigger wavesails. Helps compensate for the often gusty, inconsistent wind.

hello, we work the area around jupiter depending on conditions and get a fair amount of down the line sailing, sometimes incredibly sweet, like twice this past week. this past week, monday went off with frisky se winds crossing ne swell.. and friday was ne swell with north winds, really clean smooth faces reeling down the line south of jupiter inlet, which is the wave visible in the inlet cam panorama and south shot. also in between was a sideoff day, kinda rare with nw winds and ne swell. not always that consistent but also consider monday, as is often, was air and water temp in the 70's.. we did get the cold chill with north winds also but that wasn't too bad with water temps still in lower 70's and sunny with air temps close to sixty. some times we have lulls but also we get good stretches of wavesailing with much variety like saturday was onshore windy but angled to the ese.. or my favorites which are down the line lighter winds with swell from waist to headhigh or bigger sometimes. i'll try to include a few photos of monday here that Mike rushed to take before rigging. Best wishes, john in jupiter

I know this is not East coast, but how about Puerto Rico? It's US, supposed to be some jobs, it's warm year around. Much closer to everything then say Hawaii. Any thoughts?

just completed an upwind run to about halfway up from cape canaveral jetty park. waves were onshore at jetty at about 10 foot.
wind was side on about 50 degrees 10-20 mph.
i planed upwind about 4 miles NE of my launch to find shoulder high lefts that pushed for about 1/2 mile. any higher upwind would have required lots more time. side shore was good enough. puttered around in that, and slid back downwind for a few sloppy onshore rides. good times.

PR does have some great DTL, even as close to the airport in San Juan as Kanaha is to OGG. I used to consider it an alternative to Maui, back when they spoke English... there is nothing US about PR anymore

PR is pure Spanish. Nobody even understands English there, or pretends they don't.
No good side off spots there. Yes, plenty of sideshore spots, where the impact zone is spraying offshore, but the whole setup is sideshore, ugly chop, nothing like Cabo Verde, or even PSC.
The whole NW shore, from NNW to W, is side one most of the time, when there is any wind. DTL works, but huge cutbacks, maybe not.

Yes, Windsport mag, when it comes out, features a side off spot in IslaVerde.
It happens about once every 6 months, but solid wind, ESW, and a real swell, maybe once every two years.
Yes, I talked to the guy in the pic.
Yes, I sailed it on another day.
