Howdy all,
Any recommendations for a windsurf/kitesurf harness? It seems like most kite harnesses should work for windsurfing, I just don't care for the hammer head spreader bar that most have. It seems to get stuck in the lines when you are trying to unhook.
I have been using my T4 windsurf harness for kitesurfing, but that seems a little lightweight, and the bar strap usually loosens during use.
Thanks for the advice. |

I like kite harnesses for WSing, but the hammerhead is NOT for WSing (nor is ANY fixed hook, IMO, but that's a different issue subject to personal preferences). |

All the harness's I looked at last summer easily switched from kiting to windsurfing by simply changing the bar assembly. I ended up getting the Dakine Renegade with memory foam & had the shop switch the kite bar to a windsurfing bar with a kite knife attached just below the hook.

Ordered the DaKine Chameleon. Looks to be a kite style harness, but the bar isn't the hammerhead. I think it is the same bar as the XT seat harness from DaKine. |

Kite/schmite; by FAR the bigger difference is waist vs seat, and you've apparently already made that choice. Second biggest, and still way ahead of whatever's in third place, is roller vs hook, another choice you've apparently already made. The rest is nuances. |

Good choice on the Chameleon! You are correct in that it comes with a windsurf appropriate spreader bar. The new ones even come with a removeable butt bucket, so they really do cover ALL of your bases- use it for kite or windsurf, and use it as a seat or a waist harness. All in one. It is an aptly named harness!! _________________ formerly known as hodad.andy

if you have a bit of time and some extra money check out the ENGINE harness. Custom made to fit your back with a smaller size and great support. Any hook will fit, windsurf or kite. |
