That's about right for me too....200lbs but more rubber
Holding a 5.8 in true 30 is ok, but to me a 6+ just gets crayz and doesnt' feel or look good
Would want a bigger board to get thru the lulls, unless the ocean had good push
probably whatever is in the van, and whether i want to blast or coast
5.3? 90 L
maybe this IS a trick qwuestion after all, but yeah 5.8 and 100L....but no giant fins! _________________ https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=zw0MgkO7VXw |

16 lulls, 32 gusts, 24 average, pretty normal....
4.2 and 84 liters for me, just enough to float in 5, a little tail rocker for control in 32. 150 lbs., 32 years of shortboard experience. |

4.7 Ezzy Tiger. Tabou 3s 86 or 96 liter depending on water. I like a bit bigger board if its gusty. |

For me, in the Gorge but with no perceptible current, 90-95L wave board w/5.7 and ~20 (w/thrusters) - 24 cm (single) wave fin. MUCH would depend on shoreline wind shadow. 175#.

As I see it, I usually rig for the average windspeed rather than the highs and lows. Sails these days are designed to handle a fairly large range, so they tend to spill the higher gusts and will remain very comfortable overall.
What's the average windspeed in your scenario? It could still be a range, but quite a bit tighter. |

You're going to get answers all over the map, depending on weight and experience/skill level and one's own interpretation of the conditions. It makes a huge difference how long the lulls of 16 last,
that's why the average is important. If the lulls are just holes you
can plane thru, or are slogging a short time, a bigger sail with a smaller board would work for sailors that can handle being OPed for the gusts. If the lulls
are more like shutdowns for extended periods, then you would want a board
you can comfortably slog on, maybe even up haul. Water state is a big factor
in board decision too, gust 30+ many places have have big chop, instead of flat water, unless there is something unique about your area.
Bottom line, We need more info on the conditions! |
