My board is a 1999 Fanatic Falcon 65. I have just acquired a deep tuttle True Ames weed fin. I cant get the screws to match up with the holes no matter what I try. Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks so much, Len

Didn't Fanatics use the TrimBox design on their older boards? Are there any sliding plastic parts in the board's finbox?

It is definitely a deep tuttle. I can get in either hole but not both. Ive tried longer ones. Maybe not long enough? Any way of finding what the proper screw length should be?

If I were having this problem, the first thing I would do is measure the distance between the screw holes in the board and compare that to the screw holes in the fin. If they are the same distance apart, then screw length is the next thing to check. If the holes are not the same distance apart I would determine which holes are correct then relocate the hole(s) that are wrong.

take the advise above to measure the holes and see how or they dont line up on the board.

if the screws are long enough, which you said so....

take a thin blade screwdriver RX and insert thru the board into the fin hole to visually see the angle that the tool goes into the hole, you will be able to feel the sides then the hole, if this doent work , something else is wrong.

both my Starboard Formulas I use this method.

i solved this a couple of times by filing the screw holes in the deck slightly oblong with a small round file. also put the screws into the fin out of the board to be sure they are parallel. tiny rotation of the inserts could be the problem.

Hi again. I believe that this could be a tuttle not a deep tuttle like I said earlier. Any chance I can still use it in a deep tuttle? And could this be a problem with the screws not arching up?

tuttle fin will work in deep tuttle box, just need longer screws. Also, check to make sure the barrel nuts in the fun are rotated so the threaded holes are lined up with the vertical axis of the fin.

caution: when tightening the screws on a tuttle fin in a deep tuttle box, be careful not to overtighten and draw the fin in too deep in the box, which will spread the sides of the box.
