Many people think that a couple of big batteries will power a suburban lifestyle ... until they power up and feed a TV and watch those batteries puke even despite solar charging. (I nuke many of my meals on battery power, but a TV show consumes much more power.) That's going to be a shock for anyone accustomed to shore (campground) power.

As for others using generators (or partying, or talking, or playing music after hours) ... that's what earplugs and white noise machines are for. If their racket penetrates even that, THEN I keel them.

Geez, Spennie, cut me some slack. I haven't even taken the camper out of my driveway yet. I don't have a generator. I don't plan on using the tv.

But I may play a harmonica or guitar, and you might find yourself begging for the soothing drone of a generator.

There is lots of online information about calculating power consumption, battery needs and solar sizes. I have a simple van. A 100 amp battery, 1 solar charger for it (85 watt I think), and an 1800 watt inverter. This keeps my small refrigerator going, allows me to use the microwave for a few minutes (I noticed it is MUCH weaker than when on shore power), and lights in the van at night. The solar cell keeps it charged assuming there is sun. This will last forever (in other words, the battery is full ever night). But Isobars is right, it is amazing how quickly you can use power if you don't have a realistic calculation telling you how much you can actually use....
