So let me get this straight. The duly elected president of Ukraine is forced out in a coup, and replaced by an unelected puppet of the west. Crimea was originally part of Russia, but was given to Ukraine by a Ukrainian (Kruschev) in the late 1950's. Senior Ukraine military commanders have gone over to the Russians, and somehow we are going to press our military to stop this?

In addition, Crimean's speak Russian, sympathize with Russia, have Russian traditions, and want to be a part of Russia again, as they were for thousands of years.

The left media is all abuzz about how we need to do something about this. Yet we still have troops throughout the middle east, and are shrinking our military.

The oligarchs of the west and the oligarchs of the east are now doing battle. The spindly legged Obama against the Macho head of the KGB. Both corrupt beyond belief. Who wins, and why? It seems like Putin is playing chess and Obama is playing checkers.

SB--you start out with a good point--and then lapse into Obama-hate. You might try reading something outside the United States red-blue animosity for perspective. There is an interesting article in the current Economist.

Some balance might allow you to make more sense.

Highly credible war cycle analysis has shown for decades now that the years 2014-2020 will be especially violent and war-prone, with emphasis on the economic impacts of war. Google war cycles for an eyeful of converging cycles peaking right in front of our eyes.

They haven't decided yet if Obama's response is spineless or reckless, but they've successfully located Ukraine on a map of upstate New York.

So, Obama is an oligarch. Yanukovich (net worth approx 12bn), on the other hand, a duly elected president. The duly elected opposition in Kiev is a "puppet of the west", and Putin (off and on president of Russia since 2000) is a "professional" (previous post of yours). Where the fuck do you get your news?

"What is it good for? Absolutely nothing'."
Crimea river, really, sad but true.

Like I said on another thread (trying not to repost, honest).......
There is nothing we can do at this point, while China, N.K., and Russia are expanding their military strengths, we are in the middle of shrinking ours. Our current goal is to shrink our military back to pre WWII levels, as if the world is a peaceful place all of a sudden.
So no matter what Obama said, there is nothing behind it, and Putin knows that.
He's been studying Obama ever since he took office, and he knows what kind of threat he is. He's got Navy in Cuba now, no problem.

There is great disagreement in the Republican ranks today. Unfortunately Crony capitalism or the oligarchy are the same thing in my book. I am neither a Republican or Democrat, but only wish the money trail ended outside of Washington.

Sadly, Putin is on the world stage and seems in control. We should not be involved in Soviet indiscretions, any more than we should be in the middle east. Why would we push against a duly elected official of another country half a world away?

Finally, this weak Obama is dismantling our military. I can only pray that his moves are technologically motivated. I am not pro war, but am pro strong military.

Fueser, you are so one dimensional that it is laughable. You ignore how huge sums of money from Obama's donors seem to go right back to the donors in lucrative government contracts. And you ignore that the Wealthiest neighborhoods in the nation surround Washington DC. I would happily vote for any Democrat who stood up to these shenanigans.
