Jeff, could you explain what is going to change at Kanaha ? I thought that Kanaha was a state park. Is the windsurf area going to be shut down ? |

I'm not super familiar with the details but big sections of Kanaha are technically designated as swim zones, meaning that launching a windsurfer or a kite from that area is not allowed in order to protect the safety of the swimmers. Those designated areas have never really been enforced. Only a small section has been roped off and that's been done by owners of local shops. If they enforce the long-standing designations it would put much more extreme limits on where windsurfers can launch at Kanaha. Not even sure there would be any. That's about as much as I know. |

I saw today on the UK boards forum that a kiter jumped into a group of swimmers in El Medano and caused injuries. As much as kiters and windsurfers need to band together to fight for beach access, do the authorities know the difference between a kiter and a windsurfer in terms of the danger to bystanders? |
