Hi Gang,
August 25 iwindsurf.com/ikitesurf.com will begin shipping a revolutionary new pocket size wind meter that plugs into any iPhone or Android smart phone. Simply hold the phone and the tiny turbine facing into the wind. Your phone does the rest by recording the wind speed (average, lull and gust), wind direction and location.
Then share your onsite wind report via our free apps with friends via WeatherFlow, Instagram, Vine, Twitter, SMS, Email, Facebook. Best of all you can view other sailors and kiters crowdsourced wind information using one of our free phone apps like Windalert.
This tool will greatly expand wind information for all of us! It’s operating range extends from the smallest puff (2 mph) to well over hurricane force winds (125 mph). Calibrated at the University of Florida’s Aerospace Engineering Department, our Wind Meter is accurate to the larger of +/- 0.5% of the reading or 0.2 mph at up to 15° off-axis. That means even if you don’t hold it directly into the wind, you’ll still get very accurate wind speed information.
To get more information or order for $34.95 use this link:

So will that user-collected data show up as a third color on the graphs we already see? Orange perhaps?

That would not work since few people are going to stand with a wind meter for 15 minutes or longer so the report will actually make a line on the existing graph.
And in the Gorge the launch winds are very different than mid river. But places like Arlington, 3 mile, Stevenson Pier, Rowena, Kodak Point etc. wind meter readings would be useful.

So true, the Shore wind compared to the River Wind.
Yesterday at Arlington/Roosevelt the difference in wind direction was the most pronounced I've ever encountered, with the wind generator turbines on the Arlington shore pointing almost due south but the river wind still being Northwest. I kept looking at the windmills thinking I'd be heading down towards the Silos on starboard and towards Goldendale on port but in the river the wind was quite different...almost 90 degrees off the winds up on the Arlington plateau.
3.7 for me, 180lbs, for about 1/2hr, then pretty quickly dropping to 4.7 trapping some pretty good sailors clear downwind by the overpass... Very different swell/chop pattern, too...but still fun.
