Seems Go-Pro has raised the bar again. Much of the footage from my old GoPros would turn out to be garbage because the helmet-mounted camera was pointed down at my feet or up at the sky. Yeah easy to say ' you should check the aim' but as you know the film-worthy days out there get mighty bumpy!

See you at the ramp! (or the pipes - I'm the one with the bashed up board and bruised shins)

sounds good

Five folk out at Natural Bridges yesterday. 4.2, 4.6, 4.7 and a couple 5.8s, I believe. Wicked windy. Younger Lagoon wind meter registered 38 mph gusts. I do not know about that, but it was wicked windy.

That because the kiters were mostly at Ocean Beach.
5 in the water and 4 on shore at 4pm.

Three days at Crissy starting last Wed and topping out yesterday with a grossly overpowered 4.2 (forgot the 3.7 at home!!!!). Today another good day in the forecast.

But besides the good sailing the news (for me at least) is that the place has changed! The trend started last year and there are now basically no kites left. You count one or two, or three ... they all moved to wings, taking with them some windsurfers ... Yesterday, big wind day, it was packed with people and 50/50 % windsurf/wings, the day before, weak conditions, 10/90.

No more 20 meter long ropes on the beach, no more ship-long kites on the water. The wings tend to linger inside, seemingly paying no attention to right of way (or maybe they are just out of control?), but they are easy to avoid because they are so slow.

Together with the much reduced boat traffic (gone, at least for now, are the circling tourist-carrying fleets), the place brings back memories of Crissy in the late 80-90s ... lovely! Very Happy

A weak and up and down day. Unfortunately I arrive when it is windy enough to rig the 5.4, with the result that I spend the afternoon gently planing (when the wind is a bit up) and slogging (otherwise) ... Should have been on 6.5 + Exo and be very fine.

The Wings are back! and the ratio Windsurf/wing is also back to 10/90. It looks like it is the norm in a weak day.

Three racing hydrofoil kites out (and that is the total number of kites!), and the difference in performance with the Wings is just staggering. There must be a 20+ knots in speed difference. They are cruising the Bay up and down in the marginal conditions.

But kiters seem to rather be on the order of magnitude easier to handle wings, even if they are not really doing that great, lot's of people on their knees drifting around ... it tells you something about the value of convenience! Very Happy

back to the future!!!! And a short Crissy report for Sunday 11.

I get there at 3pm and rig the Spy 4.7 because it looks like it is coming up. It does and I have a very nice session powered to overpowered (toward the north tower) conditions. At some point I can use the 4.2 but I do the usual "drift eastward" trick and chop and wind are more manageable. Did I mention chop? It is still there, today all the silly little tourist boats and ferries were out in force: choppy! For some reason the coast guard was also doing loops at 30 knots, had to jibe to avoid it a couple of times, right east of the "washing machine". Not so much fun!

Gazillion wings, and a couple of handfuls of windsurfs later in the day. Ratio say 1 windsurf to 4 wings. Still count 3 kites .. they are gone.

My Starboard FSW 81 feels draggy ... maybe I'll remove the small side fins I still have installed. Or maybe it is just the chop that slow things down.

Enjoy Spring, it is going to be Crissy for a while for me so no much point keep posting about it! Shocked

April 11 Sunday at Candlestick.

Early shift- lighter wind: 1 windsurfer to 10 wingers.
Late shift - stronger wind: 12 windsurfers to 2 wingers

Have not seen a kite for at least 3 years.
