Hello East/Central windsurfers,

I currently live in Los Angeles where the sailing is pretty decent.

My girlfriend got a job in Nashville so it's time to move Crying or Very sad

Nashville has lakes and the meters indicate there is sometimes some wind (hits about 20 knots at the airport a few days per month during the Winter and Spring).

We're planning on flying to the Caribbean to get some real sailing done but I'm hoping to get my fix for this addictive sport once in a while locally.

So, does anybody sail in Nashville? If you do or you have any info please let me know!

Thanks!

Oliver.

Oliver,

I think your best bet will be a good hike over to the obx. Get ready for good music and bbq though.

Don't know if your into Motorcycles.....great Dual Sport riding all over that area of the country.

Hi SeaDawg,

Thanks for the reply. Yes OBX seems great but it's a solid day's drive each way.

I'm not really into motorcycles, but I enjoy cycling and other sports and it seems I'll be able to do all of them in that area (except skiing).

I'm still hoping a local Nashvillian will have some tips on hitting the lakes when it does blow.

Hey Oliver,

You should reach out to the guys in and around Atlanta (http://windsurfatlanta.org). They sail on Lake Lanier (~ 4hrs from where you'll be) and are most likely familiar with venues that might be even closer to Nashville.

Cheers and good luck with the move!

Jerome.

There is a really large reservoir (J. Percy Priest Res.) just east of Nashville off Rt 40. Drove past it on a business trip. Check out google maps - looks like lots of public access is available. Definitely longboard-able maybe even better in spring or fall frontal winds.

Thanks samson_jerome, that's a good tip. I'll drop a question in their forum. Looks like they get some real sailing conditions over there once in a while.

rswabsin, yep I've even been there and it seems totally sailable. We're thinking of getting a windsup for the days it's not blowing hard. But I'm hoping there are a few good days each Spring and Fall to really tear it up.
