I am incapable of countering such sophisticated criticisms of the sailing conditions on the peninsula. You win, gentlemen. Well played.

Well from the few times I have been to Tomales, I would have to say that the wind sensor reads about 15 to 20 knots lower than what is out on the water. It is about even with the point and the wind gradually builds up till you get about a 1/4 of the way across. Just my two cents.
Yes it was windy Monday I should have rigged my 3.2 instead of my 3.6 , after getting OP on my 4.2.
Shocked

Well, from the few times I have been to Tomales, I would have to say that you have one of the coolest cars ever, 2BH.

Actually I like the Nicasio route... Downside is you bypass Pt. Reyes Station, where the good eateries and watering holes are.

There are some solid options on the Nicasio route too. BBQ oysters at the Marshall General Store or Tony's? Beers at Rancho Nicasio?

And, while I love Tomales, just wanted to point out the average wind speeds at 3rd were on par with Tomales monday and I'm willing to wager the swell was 2X bigger. Just saying. Cool

Having sailed both places, I can attest. Swell at Tomales is not even in the same class as swell in the channel at 3rd. That spot, when you cross into the channel is like going to a different planet. However, being as I live 40 minutes from Tomales, and 2 hours from 3rd, guess where I sail? What I like about Tomales (other than location, scenery on the ride, places to stop for food and drink, retail oyster outlets, regular sailing crew, and absolute beauty of the sailing site) is that with the swell there, you can rig a size down and the swell gives you power. So you're not BHO all the time.

Steve

I was the only one on the water at Tomales yesterday with good reason. Instead of being up and down as Mike predicted it was down and up. I sailed for about an hour on a 5.8 and then the wind came up. I changed to a 5.0 and a smaller board but was still too over powered to make a full run. I couldn't decide if a 4.5 or 4.0 would be appropriate so I just went home.

I may try Bullhead today to save mileage.

Today they turned it down just a notch from Monday and it was all I could ever hope for. A solid 3.5 for me and there were several others on on 3.5's to 3.7's. The day was made extra special by the oysters on the half shell that Steve served to everyone in the parking strip. I'm glad I didn't punt for Bullhead.

Yes it was a great day and thanks to Ross who sailed longer in the evening than most I wasn't by myself after 5pm. I can say that just got stronger after most everyone left. What a day! Embarassed

Lots of fun today at Tomales, Wish I had a 3.2 the 3.7 at times was a bit much. Thanks to Copperline for the post session beer and oysters. We followed up with a couple of dozen, back at the house, on the grill.

Mr Godsey, my wife has just ask the following:

"What, is he getting old or something. His forecast for Monday says:
Potentially Dangerous winds,
Since when do the forecast come with safety warnings?"

But many thanks for the heads up !!!
